Laundry Dos And Don´ts – Tips When Washing Clothes, Bags And Shoes

Jerrick KM Foo
You can´t just put every thing in the washing machine. There is a proper way of washing bags, shoes and clothes. If you want to prevent damages to your laundry loads, you should know how to wash them properly.

Do Separate Colored Garments From White Garments

This is also the same with your canvas shoes and canvas bags. Always separate the colored ones from the white ones. There is a possibility that dark-colored garments will bleed and stain your white colored garments. If this is your first time washing the colored garment, you can try soaking it in a tub full of water mixed with vinegar first to set the colored and to prevent it from bleeding. Pastel-colored clothes can be mixed with the white ones provided that they have been washed and used for a long time already.

Don´t Soak Authentic Leather

If you are washing leather clothes, bags and shoes, never soak it completely in the washer. You will have a hard time drying it up. If it stays moist for a long period of time, it might become moldy or the leather material might get damaged.

Just clean the leather with a natural disinfectant or have it dry cleaned. For shoes, just wipe it with a leather polish. Do the same to your leather bag. Air it out once a week as well to prevent it from smelling musty.

Do Put Your Delicate Garments In A Mesh Bag

Whether you are using a front load washer or not, it is still ideal to put your delicate garments in a mesh bag. Clothes can get thrown around easily in the washer drum and this might cause the formation of lint on the delicate garments. Placing them in a mesh bag before putting them in the washer is better.

Do Check Your Bags And Remove Objects Inside

Check the pockets of your bag and remove trash, tissue, loose coins and gadgets that might get soaked in the washing machine. If it is a canvas bag, turn it inside and out so the washer can clean the inside of the bag easily.

Don´t Use Too Much Cleaning Products

Most washing machines are more than capable of cleaning clothes even with little use of laundry detergent. Using too much laundry detergent might fade clothes or might leave residues on your laundry load. Also check the bleach compartment for residues. If the washer did not completely use the bleach, it might get used during your next laundry cycle.
