A Brooding Loner. An Ugly Betty. An 'Outcast' 'Nerd' 'Creep' 'Weirdo' 'Wimp' . A Smoking Gun?

It seems that this young man was a brooding loner. He had a short relationship with Emily Hilscher but Emily had moved on. Seung-Hui was not going to find a like girl friend anytime soon. Emily would have had no problem replacing Hui or indeed having a full social life. This boy brought over by parents aged 9 is SO similar to the Bosnian boy Sulejman Talovic who shot up a Utah mall, and was brought over at 10 and both from a life of violence and now there will be Iraqi youths brought over from the violence we are so far from. And yes Mr. President you are right when you say that we have to fight them abroad so we don’t fight them at home. The problem is that when you live by the sword you die by the sword and there will be violence from vets who witness atrocities and violent death as depicted in the PBS series last night. Just as occurred post Vietnam. And also from the youth and the orphans we create around the world that will have no direction in ten to fifteen years time. They WILL come back to haunt us.

(Engineering student Joe Aust, 19, said Seung-Hui was so private he barely knew him, even though the pair had slept just yards apart for nearly a year. He shared a university dorm with Aust and student Karan Grewal, 21. But Seung-Hui ate all his meals alone and turned his back on their attempts at friendship. Aust said: “He was my room-mate. I didn’t know him that well, though. He was always really, really quiet and kind of weird. “Just anti-social, didn’t talk to anybody. I tried to make conversation with him and he would just give one word answers and not try and carry on the conversation. “I would notice a lot of times, I would come in the room and he would kind of be sitting at his desk, just staring at nothing. “When he was in the room, he would spend a lot of time on his computer, downloading music and stuff. “He was probably gone more often than he was here.”)

This all started with Hui confronting and shooting his ex Emily and someone who came to her aid in a bristling argument at 7.15 that day in her dormitory. Then he returned to his own dorm to rearm and must have decided to go out with a bang. We have to understand that although he was a ‘creep’ ‘nerd’ ‘loser’ and a few more epithets that similar less gifted imperfect specimens will identify with such as ‘Ugly Betty’, this society has no qualms with dissing and rejecting these lesser beings every moment of every day. We need to seek and embrace these people?

A Quote from Emily’s friend: Eunnah Park, from Canada, wrote: “I’m sorry that she ever got involved with this guy. “It makes me so mad that he took so many lives. What a callous, unfeeling wimp. Rest in peace, all the victims.” Obsessed Seung-Hui — described as a sad loner — sought revenge on Emily and the male student he believed she had left him for. This of course happens all over the world and I hear Stupid Boortz give the analogy of “would you not want to pass a gun to any of those students if you could to deal with this madman?” Well if you could make THAT miracle there are two points I would make. One is that why not make the miracle that the gun melts in his hands or jams or explodes. Boortz sees only more violence as the solution. My second point is that if you could magically provide a weapon to one of the students will you also supply a instruction book for the weapon? Will you supply the ammunition. Will you train to ‘lock and load’? Will you give it to the one with the best eyesight or the steadiest hand? Will you ensure that they can be as cold and deliberate as this gunman is after a life of rejection and isolation? Lets instead work somehow to make guns less available and even in Virginia.
