Peacock Parade is a darling little book about a Peacock named Percy. He is all excited about being in the Peacock Parade. Of course it is a day of showing off your talents, or selling books, jewels or even baking or making jelly. Percy didn´t have any talent that he thought was worthwhile. After having a heart to heart talk with Mother Peacock ,Percy realized that everyone loved him for his acts of kindness. Find out what Percy does to lift the hearts of all the other Peacocks in the parade. This book teaches that one act of kindness goes a long way and it opens our minds and reminds us that to give is sometimes more rewarding than receiving.

I do know one thing that Percy should do is make a Percy cookbook for kids. As listed in the book…Cream of Potato Dandelion Soup, Lingonberry ice Cream, Blueberry bread, Brie and Lemon Curd. Yummy! I love the Lingonberry Ice Cream recipe in the book at the end. I must try it, as my mouth is starting to water. Although, I think the recipe should have been highlighted on the back cover of the book for all to see immediately.

Wonderful ideas and activities greet you at the end of the story. This book would make a great gift for caretakers, parents and teachers. The book is a must read and will give any sad child a glimmer of hope that he or she is also a very special person in their own special way. After all, each feather is a different color. Told through a Peacocks eyes, children will love Percy. After reading the story it made me want to sing, whistle a happy tune, and smile! Twenty Five Dandelions are hidden throughout the pages of the book for your child to find. Peacock Parade is uplifting, fun, invigorating, stimulating, creative, and you will feel like having your own parade when you finish the book!

The illustrations by Carolyn Boscola are fun, bright and complement the story very nicely.

Words from the author:

I love dandelions. As a child, I used to blow the seeds of dandelion clocks and make wishes. Some people see them as ugly weeds. I tend to think they are beautiful! Just like Percy in our story and every child, dandelions have a gift to offer the world. Farmers like dandelions because they loosen the soil. Bees like their pollen. The plant is also used in various herbal medicine.

I would like to make a special dedication in this book to my favorite dandelion, Dandelion Time, one of the charities receiving a portion of the proceeds from this book. Dandelion Time is a charity that helps restore hope to troubled young lives, to help them discover their talents.
