Inquisition Against Gays In Catholic Seminaries
The Vatican has launched an inspection of Roman Catholic seminaries in the United States to search for "evidence of homosexuality."
I wonder what the homophobic big wigs at the Vatican consider "evidence of homosexuality?" Will they peruse the CD collections of seminarians to see if they find any Barbara Streisand or Judy Garland albums? Will they demand that the aspiring priests walk a straight line to see if they can do so without sashaying? Will they interrogate them under the lights to see if under pressure they answer with a lisp?
The inspections of hundreds of seminaries and theological schools was authorized as a response to the church's child molestation scandal.
The inquisition will be carried out by a cabal of about 200 bishops and priests who will break down into small teams to visit each seminary for a few days. It's not known if these teams will carry sticks and gasoline to set any gays they may find on fire.
It's incredible that such ignorance exists in the 21st century: the Catholic Church is equating homosexuality with pedophilia. It's outrageous to imply that homosexuals are more susceptible to pedophilia than heterosexuals.
Don't get me wrong. I believe that child-molesters should be locked up forever and that there should be a "one strike law" for child-abusers.
But it's unfair and patently ridiculous to make homosexuals the scapegoats; there are many gay priests living exemplary lives.
The Catholic Church should hire an outside company to search for "evidence of intelligence and common sense" at the Vatican -- these commodities seems to be in very short supply the higher you go up in church hierarchy.
