Gilmore Foundation Provides Grant for Free High Speed Wireless Web Access
The deployment of the network provides our community with a cutting edge advantage to help recruit new industries and businesses. The network clearly puts Amory in the forefront as the pioneer digital community in Mississippi and the southeast,” explained Danny Spreitler, executive director of the Gilmore Foundation.
The Gilmore Foundation is a private, non-profit grant making organization, guided by a long tradition of serving humanity. With the reallocation of assets from the sale of Gilmore Memorial Hospital, the foundation's many years of service and community involvement continues.
The recent construction of the new Gilmore Foundation Conference Center has provided a location for the backbone infrastructure, data center, and utility infrastructure for the wireless network now known as AmoryNet.
Wireless Internet access begins with the Main Street area of Amory, followed by the areas around the schools. Plans are for the entire city to be wireless by 2009. The AmoryNet enables the local hospital immediate access, giving the healthcare industry in the area a big boost.
Wireless communication will also aid in making the area more attractive to recruit businesses and economic growth for the area, according to Spreitler.
