A Eulogy To The Don Imus That Was.

Ken Hughes
Don’t get excited Don Imus isn’t dead by a long shot. Like the Phoenix he’ll rise from the ashes bigger and better than ever. “Your Fired” was a common phrase among radio personalities long before Donald Trump ever thought of using it for a TV show. Don Imus survived as a shock-jock for 30 years, long after the other shock-jocks of the 60’s and 70’s had gone off to become Wal Mart Greeters. Don Imus and Howard Stern are the last of a dieing breed but like buggy whips horse callers and good old caustic humor there’ll always be a place for one or two.

The dishonesty in the entertainment industry abounds with deception deceit and hypocrisy leading the pack. Very few who practice the craft of radio host ever reach the age of puberty in radio years. There’s always been a joke among radio personalities “Buy don’t rent your U-Haul Trailer.” Don Imus was an exception he was with the same New York Radio station for over 20 years. The station had more owners than Nicole Simpson had affairs. Howard Stern and Don Imus were the mortar that held the station together, their gone now and I predict the popularity of WFAN / CBS will soon follow. One of the stations in California took a poll among their listeners 94 % favored Don Imus staying on the air and only 6 % wanted him removed. Most of those who wanted him gone had never heard of him.

CBS entertainment’s made some costly mistakes in the past years. In an attempt to become number one they’ve taken what was some of their best opportunities and trashed them in favor of fluff. Both CBS and MSNBC knew what they were getting when they programmed the Don Imus Show.

They turned their heads and pretended they didn’t know what Don Imus was saying. CBS [aka] Viacom Entertainment owns among other entertainment venues such as Comedy Central and South Park to mention two.

In one of the seasons openers South Park has a skit where a man won on Jeopardy and he was down to the final selection, the word was N*gger, if he were right he would win some exorbitant prize. He chose the obvious only to find the word was “nagger”. He was forced to visit with Jesse Jackson to beg for forgiveness. Jesse dropped his drawers and the white dude was forced to kiss Jesses rear-end. Where were the Reverend Twins when that came off, where was their rage then?

The I-Man as he is often referred to became the lefts target of opportunity he was the perfect Icon to tumble to pseudo-racial hypocrisy. Let’s hope Don Imus will stand up like the man we think he is and fight back against black racism.

I heard Bo Dietel Dons good friend ranting on the radio defending Don Imus this week. I would take one Bo Dietel backing me up over a hundred New York Lawyers any day. Don Imus has many friends who are silent now waiting for the dust to settle. Some of the early defenders were Bill Maher, James Caravel, Paul Begala and several others I don’t recall them all just now. Far too many of those who used Don Imus to promote their books and Media image are silent hiding under their desks in their safe corner offices of the major media outlets. There’s nothing like the smell of fear to make some people head for the high country leading out of Dodge.

Don Imus was popular, no matter how bad we felt Imus felt worse, he was the quintessential victim. He allowed the rest of us to step back and see how we’re being treated by the “System.” With all his bravado, false humility and sarcasm he entertained millions. That was what he was paid to do, men with smaller minds who didn’t understand his Schtick and didn’t like his Cowboy image in the Big Apple took the opportunity to rid the airways of this western vermin when it availed it’s self to them.

I have no doubt Imus will surface again and become even more popular than he has been. What will be interesting will be how many of his old audience will follow him and his old friends won’t? My advice to Don Imus is keeping your head up and your mouth shut until you find a home. Stop playing the victim you’re not suck it up and move on.

This isn’t the first time Don Imus has had to face a grim reality, as those who know him will attest he’s a hard man to keep down regardless of all his whining. The pity of all this is firing Don Imus strokes the egos of the Reverends Sharpten and Jackson but it may alter the benevolent works the Imuses were able to do for kids with cancer and the Hackensack University Hospital in New Jersey. I wonder if Al Sharpten knew or cared he would be effecting the welfare of kids with cancer for some time to come when he demanded Don Imus be fired. If you’re black and mouthy my guess is you don’t worry about the collateral damage you create for a personal headline, and that’s what the Reverends Sharpten and Jackson are all about Media coverage and extorting cash.

, Bueno por la buena suerte y buen Sr. Imus de la caza, we’ll be looking for the Phoenix in the New Mexico skies.
