Hold On Hass, That’s My Money You’re Spending

Ken Hughes
Mr. President that’s my money and 300 million other peoples money you’re talking about. You want to spend 200 billion dollars on roughly 2 to 2 ½ million people. I have no doubt your speech meant to encourage the victims of hurricanes Katrina. It isn’t going to encourage the people who will eventually pay the bill. I’m aware your speech was meant to sooth the savage beast knocking at the presidents door. It was a little to much in my opinion. I’ll accept you probably did some good sidetracking your opposition.

It would take that outlandish proposal of 200 billion dollars to satisfy the media and liberal critics. Men with unlimited AMX cards, men who have never received an ISF notice from their bank have a hard time distinguishing between 2, 20, and 200 when it comes to other peoples billions.

The president’s speech was a noble gesture meant to recapture the confidence of the public. It wasn’t a barn burner in any sense of the word. As a Bush watcher, I felt he didn’t show the enthusiasm that type of speech demanded. I felt he didn’t believe it anymore than I did. It just didn’t have any zip in it.

There’s no way the president will get even half of what he proposed through congress. On his plus side, any of it that doesn’t pass congress, they’ll take the blame for, Bush proposed, Congress vetoed, clever move Mr. President.

I’m extremely disappointed in those who’re trying to make this a race issue. Hurricane Katrina was an act of God, God isn’t a racist, neither are blacks Gods chosen victims. It’s ludicrous to suggest blacks were the only ones effected by the hurricanes. Or to suggest their devastation was more hurtful than the whites. The hypocrisy of those who’re trying to turn this into a race issue will rough the day they made race the issue. Perused this could very well set race relations back years.

Everyone in this country stepped up to the plate, regardless of religion, race, color or personal prodigious to offer assistance, not to a black community of victims. They came out in mass to assist an American community of victims in time of need. Any reference to race is an insult to the generosity of Americans.

The Two Black Americas

The first and least recognizable are those African Americans who took advantage of the opportunity’s presented over the past forty years. They’ve blended into mainstream America. They’ve become unrecognizable from the man across the street. There’re us, we the people. Then there are those African Americans who remain in the Ghetto either through fear of intimidation. Those who the self-appointed black leaders stand on their shoulders pretending to lift them out of poverty when in fact they are holding them down.

America’s spent billions of tax payer dollars on the war on poverty with dismal results. Was it really a war on poverty or just another way of assuring bondage for a group of unsuspecting victims? Was it a way of assuring votes for a liberal Democratic agenda? A Liberal Democratic congress conducted nearly forty years of fighting the war on poverty. Why then do we still have poverty, disenfranchised citizens, and a hopeless future for so many African Americans? A Democratic Congress can’t blame Republicans for nearly half century of failures on their part.

Mr. President no one is opposed to giving some aid to all the victims of hurricane Katrina. It shouldn’t be allocated on the basis of race. Their should be some qualifying criteria for receiving any aid. Indiscriminately passing out bucks is a ill-advised as passing the buck. Mr. President please don’t go on an uncontrolled spending spree with our money
