Hypocrisy And The Double Standard

Ken Hughes
Reverends Sharpten and Jackson are outraged at Don Imuses remarks calling the Rutgers Women’s Basketball Team “Nappy headed Ho’s”. There’s no defense for Mr. Imuses remarks but that shouldn’t define what the man is all about. The Reverends Sharpten and Jackson aren’t without their 15 minutes of shame. The Reverends use racism as a defense when caught with their own racial modifiers showing.

No where more than in the entertainment world is the African American Hip Hop / Rap culture emulated by whites. When one hears “Ho’s and Bitches” spewed out on Black Radio and Black Cable TV in a constant daily flow it stands to reason they are going to be used inadvertently at some point. Why the double standard, why are these words offensive when spoken by a white man and acceptable entertainment when spoken by a black man? Why the black elitism, why is it acceptable for a black man to denigrate a black woman for the sake of entertainment and a white man is being crucified for the same offensive words?

The Reverends Sharpten and Jackson when questioned regarding the use of these words by Black Entertainers are quick to point out they’ve spoken out against such language. I suggest their rage is whispered and no names are ever mentioned. The Reverends Sharpten Jackson and the NAACP must be able to lay a guilt trip on white America in order to maintain their wave of extortion over the white community. What better way than to select an individual of notoriety or an industry with deep pockets to practice their craft of verbal abuse and financial extortion.

To date Black racism is practiced against White America with impunity. We are constantly reminded of the days long ago when slavery was practiced in a small portion of America. There’s little mentioned of nearly half a million Union Soldiers who lost their lives fighting to end slavery. Today there are more living decedents of fallen Union Soldiers than there are decedents of African Slaves but are they asking for Blacks to pay restitution, I think not.

Blacks have fought in every American war including the Revolutionary War.

Blacks have contributed to the advancements of science medicine and agriculture on an equal basis [percentage wise] with whites, how many times have the Reverends told their followers a Black Navigator kept Columbus’s ships on course on its voyage to the New World in 1492? Or the first casualty of the War of Independence was a Blackman, the third rail of electric trains, granulated sugar, shoe lasts, blood plasma the list goes on. Why do the Reverends spread hate among the races rather than pride of accomplishment? Why do the Reverends patronize the Rappers and shun the dreams of Dr. Martin Luther King?

I suspect it because the dreams of Dr. King are being fulfilled by the blacks who don’t buy into the Reverends “Poor Black Me Syndrome” and there’s no money in it for the Reverends. Don Imus couldn’t have been created on a Hollywood Movie set as a target of the Reverends. He’s everything the Eastern / Washington elite and Black leaders detest. Imus is a genuine Cowboy who moved to the city and didn’t change. Imus is one of the nation’s most successful Radio hosts and Reverend Sharpten also a radio host who can’t carry Imuses water bucket.

Imus, CBS Radio and MSNBC may very well come out of this fray the big winners. Imus had a following on National Radio and MSNBC of nearly ten million listeners and viewers at various times. Now that three hundred million people have heard of him curiosity alone is bound to increase his audience dramatically. There are bound to be a number of new listeners who find the Imus show entertaining. I’ve been a fan of Don Imus for over 20 years. I find his humor biting something that gets my attention in the morning when I would rather be doing something other than getting ready to face another day. Imus like Rush Limbaugh can become an addiction.

My suggestion to those who are berating Imus, there’s an on off switch on every radio and TV, if you don’t like him use them. Let the rest of enjoy Don Imus in peace, it’s our constitutional right.

Have the Reverends Sharpten and Jackson finally gone to far, time will tell?
