Who Are You?
Let's explore that idea for a bit today!
I think my identity consists of many different layers. I am a human being, and as a human being,I am a citizen of the world, and hence have a very small responsibility for the entire planet. I am committed to humanist values, to the ecology of the globe, to freedom, peace and justice for all. My sincere hope is that in the not too distant future these values will be guaranteed to everyone by an effective world order.
I am a citizen of the United States of America. I was born in the same house that my father and grandfather were born in before me. My great grandfather and great grandmother immigrated from Germany and became naturalized citizens of America. America is my country and my wish is for it to live in peace with all of the other countries of the world. I am deeply saddened by my countries preemptive war with Iraq and Afghanistan and have let everyone know my feelings on this matter from the President, my representatives in Congress, my newspaper and everyone around me. I would like to have an America that I can be proud of and not one that I need to apologize for because of it's blunders and killings of thousands of innocent Arabs.
I am also a Quaker and have been all of my life. Now that doesn't really tell you very much for there are so many varieties of Quakers that it makes your head swim. I am aware of all the various offshoots of Quakers and respect all of them. I just happened to be brought up in the programmed style of the Quakers and continued in that branch serving as pastor of 6 different Meetings in 4 different Yearly Meetings and as an administrater in our Friends United Meeting Offices for 39 years of my life. I am now retired and living in our Friends Fellowship Community here at Richmond, Indiana. I am nearly 92 years of age and continue to share my views wherever I can!
