Irresponsible Planet Abusers need to Wake Up. America needs to Put them Straight?

Patrick Lockyer
I listen to Sean Hannity and Neal Boortz not because I agree with many words they speak but because I care for my family and my family is America. If I had a sick relative I would watch and study them carefully and make sure they were not going to fall into danger. I watch and read also the Blogs of AOL as they are a good indicator of the nations thoughts and feelings. I read a lot of sick puppies postings there but over my nearly six years here in the USA I have seen a gradual sea change that bodes well for recovery. The radical voice WAS the only one but now at least sanity does answer those radicals more frequently. We need to make more changes for sure?

I do hear though the complete denial from Hannity to the fact that we are eating the planet. Eating it in the matter of all we consume. Britain is no longer self-sufficient and for sure neither is the US. He talks of finding a new fuel and suggesting water which is stupid as we already consume too much of that? The point is that in our greed we will require more and more of whatever we drive our machines with. As I grappled with my small sailboat last Saturday in bad weather in water only a few feet above my head I had cause to reflect on this. I got into terrible trouble for trying to put her in at a bad place. Every muscle aches today for the 11 hours I spent with her in cold water to my waist to rectify my error. But it was my error. People came to my aid at County Dock Jacksonville and one even got in the water with me to help me out. The point I wanted to make though was that one young man who came on his bike several times to the dock to commiserate and to see the cabaret told me that a guy he knows has a bill of $950 to fill his boat tank. That is nearly twice what I paid for my little Victoria 18. There are boaters and boaters. I don’t even have a motor yet.

Hannity is at great pains to bring up what Gore and Pelosi use in their house in fuel and in their flights? What on earth does it matter what they or Tiger Woods or John Travolta with his five planes does, or even the Queen for that matter? It is the fact that more and more of us can have boats that use up that much fuel and can afford it. That more and more of us can have four vehicles or more that guzzle gas and CAN afford it. Incidentally I don’t have one vehicle? This trend will continue here and kids have vehicles earlier and earlier. My daughters in the UK did not have their own vehicle until they were in their twenties and even though I was a Government Sanctioned Driving Instructor in the UK I was in no hurry to teach them or to encourage them to learn to drive. They needed to learn how to live and survive more than they needed to learn how to drive as teenagers. My youngest is/was quite a soccer star in her youth and now works for the English Football Association and is fit and well for all that walking she did. In her heyday she was scoring 30 goals a season in top class women’s soccer. Some of her defenders had necks like Mike Tyson and I used to flinch at the tackles as I toured the UK watching her play. I resisted joining in other than verbally?

The point is that to some extent, hunger and greed drive the economy of this great country and we look to too many others nations to provide it. Whether it is gas or whether it is just other everyday things our reliance is too great. You only have to look at Katrina to see that our reliance on communication for one thing can lead to anarchy when we are deprived of it? With China able to knock out a satellite just like that we have to realize that we head towards a cliff edge. Our reliance on our semi enemies for cooperation also leads us to certain immoralities that do not go unnoticed in the world stages. We use money and commerce to blackmail and coerce and subdue and that is not good. We earn a bad name for that kind of business. No one wants to face the fact that we are “driven’ almost as much as our economy is to wanting more and more and more and our children do, and will, want more and more and even more. We will get more and more sedentary, more and more opulent and fatter by the minute. My ‘City’ of Jacksonville probably weighs more in bodyweight than many African Nations do?

As far as Sean Hannity goes we need to bombard the ‘stupid dope’ as he blatantly calls liberals or opposers, with calls to put him down about our need to “reduce the abuse”. It is ‘US’, the mere mortals who must turn the tide of greed and consumption and not the leaders of the campaign. It is ‘US’ mere folk who can put a hundred dollars of gas in our boats and less the Michael Jackson’s of the world. At one time THEY were the only ones doing that but now too many of us are doing that. Soon kids will be want to be driving at twelve and to be Congressmen at twenty? Our opulence will be our downfall I suspect and we might implode just like Rome and Athens used to be the center of the universe. We must not be in Denial?
