Andy Warhol Had The Right Idea
I guess and according to Warhol, the future he must have envisioned is pretty much upon us. For, yes, it is possible now for just about anyone to reach out and grab his/her fifteen minutes, just like that.
All he/she might need to achieve this is a digital camera, computer, internet connection and or a spot on one of the many reality shows on television. For no matter how humourous, foolish or amateurish a video might seem, all one has to do is upload it to youtube.com or a related web site and watch the visitors’ statistics come in.
It’s truly amazing, but there are thousands if not millions of internet surfers who might enjoy watching an amateur lipsincng a hit single, dancing or doing something else, one gets the idea.
Then with the introduction of reality television, one can become an instant celebrity. All he/she has to do is appear on one of the shows, stay on and win the contest or get voted off and the next thing one knows is that he/she is now known by the hundreds, or thousands of people who tuned in to watch whatever reality show that person appeared on.
And if things go really well, that individual who was voted off or won the contest might even get a spot on one of those morning or talk shows, thus boosting his/her popularity.
Amazing isn’t it? And as long as those reality shows and web sites keep rolling out those shows and videos, more and more people will keep crawling out of whatever niche they dwell in for their chance at trying to grab the spotlight if only for a few seconds or like Andy Warhol put it, their fifteen minutes.
I guess what everyone wants every now and again is a little attention or to let the world know hey, I am here too.
