Thank You Oprah, for giving the Autism Community a lift

With Autism Awareness Month off to a good start Oprah Winfrey added her clout to the issue. Being a parent of two ASD children I was glad to see that the show was not all one sided as far as possible causes. The Vaccine issue is not dead and the environmental factors were not neglected either. And Again Autism Speaks was a major player as the parents that were on stage played a part in the documentary “Autism every day”.
This also showed that Autism Speaks is not one sided in beliefs and is really looking for answers. I was surprised that word of the Wright’s grandson Christopher’s reversal back to language was not touched on as David Kirby (Author of Evidence of Harm) reported recently. This reversal was due in part to what many refer to as Alternative Medical procedures.
I guess that I shouldn’t expect more than just baby steps for now and allow the word to spread by way of mouth until someone can give more detailed information. I am concerned that some parents attempt Alternatives without a doctors guidance. This is where problems may occur. Unless you are a trained practitioner you may harm your child. Many of us that have found success have noticed that our children seem to become worse at first and in truth this is expected as the toxins are released from their hiding places so to speak. But under continuation and proper guidance this will clear and success will be at hand.
As I have become a firm believer in Alternative Medicine I should add that one reason we do not see or hear of more success is due to lack of knowledgeable practitioners in the United States. Perhaps we could have this changed and start investigating ways to have our conventional doctors to be trained in the use of Alternatives. As we must understand that there is a time for both conventional and Alternative Medicine.
And I do hope that anyone that watched Oprah heard what these families lives are like and just how frustrating it is to deal with not only the emotional aspects but also the financial ones that both take a toll on loved ones. Many of us have been beating our drums and trying to be the squeaky wheel. I just hope that now you may understand the dilemma that we face. With 67 children being born with ASD a day I hope that you understand the economic impact as this is another guaranteed $201,000,000 in the red we go as a nation for just those born today disregarding past and future cases. I don’t think that it is too much to ask our government to spend I billion next year in research as to causes as that is just the next five days of lifelong costs.
We also need to clean up the CDC and NIH and stop the pharmaceutical industries influence upon research in this area amongst others that they can profit from. We need cures not symptom relief.
