A Hard Death by Jonathan Hayes

Nancy Eaton
Edward Jenner lost his New York license. He agrees to work as the Douglas County Medical Examiner for his friend who has a trip planned with his wife. Jenner believes things will be very quiet because he was told "Douglas County is a place where old money went to die, a place where no one ever died violently."

This "quiet time" does not last very long. A car is pulled from the water with two bodies inside. It turns out the man in the car is Jenner´s friend and his wife. This is only the beginning. More bodies start to pile up. Two Mexicans have been hanged and left near a swamp. Could there be a connection between these two crime scenes?

Edward Jenner will not rest until he finds who is responsible for these murders. He has been through a disgraced past and is determined to start a new life. Even though his life is in danger, he will not give up until he finds the truth.

Will Edward Jenner be successful in finding the murderers?

A Hard Death is the sequel to Precious Blood. It is not necessary to read Precious Blood first. Edward Jenner is a well developed character who is strong willed and determined to find the murderers. A Hard Death grabbed my interest from the very first page and continued to hold my attention throughout the book. I love the short chapters which are similar to James Patterson´s books. It makes the reader want to read just one more chapter before turning out the lights. Much of the story is set in the Everglades and this gives the reader the perfect background for this very thrlling, action-packed book.
