Stop The Blame Game And Start Helping

Judy Ramsook
Sometimes it is difficult to sit back and say nothing about a certain matter. For maybe, there are some people who believe that if that certain matter goes ignored long enough, it will be buried into an invisible wasteland of nothingness. But sometimes when a certain issue becomes too unbearable to just sit back and stay quiet about is when some people feel it necessary to say something.

Take the recent destruction of New Orleans by hurricane Katrina for example. Some people are blaming this on certain sinners in the world. And that a certain Supreme Being is, in a way, lashing out at these sinners, but when one stops and thinks for a second or two, aren’t most, if not all humans subjected to sinning at some point in life?

Since birth, you are brought into this world in which you are taught certain things, for that’s how you first start knowing about the world around you. For you are not born knowing all these things, you find out about them as you go along.

For example, when you are old enough to know the difference between right and wrong, a lie and the truth, that’s probably when the first sin is committed. Say you have accidentally broken your mother’s favourite vase and she questions you about it’s condition upon noticing the damaged item. Would you right away own up and admit to accidentally breaking it, knowing that the consequences may not be ones you will like, or would you say no that it was not you who was inadvertently responsible for the destruction of the item? If you said no, there you have it, the committing of a sin.

Then as you grow and go through life, there might be other sins along the way. Other sins that take on many forms. Like maybe you did not stop and render aid to that disadvantaged person on the street, or you turned away from being a fellow man’s friend because you did not like his/her skin colour or the way he/she speaks, walks, looks and so on.

Whatever form they take, sins are out there, so maybe before blaming certain groups for acts of destruction, inflicted by a Supreme Being, whether or not they come manmade or natural, maybe, just maybe we are all a little responsible for what is happening to our world.

So next time you want to reach out and blame some one for something, first take a long look at the image in the mirror. For only when you stop and do this is when you will notice that time spent blaming others for what has occurred could be time spent doing something to help those in need.
