WHY DID AMERICA"S GOP CONSERVATIVES BECOME FAR-RIGHT EXTREMISTS
...And why are the stars on this GOP elephant logo upside down? Doesn´t that have a satanic meaning or a sign of the party being in danger?
Everyone today has heard the story that if you put a live frog in a pot of cold water and turn the heat up slowly, the frog will not know that he is being killed until the death occurs.
Using this analogy, this is exactly what has been happening to the American voting public as the Republican party has changed over the last 3 to 4 decades from being a true "conservative party", to being today´s: "conservatives without a conscience". The true "Conservative Republican", by 1955-65 standards, is virtually an extinct animal.
Due to the GOP´s slow migration over the last decades (such as a frog in warming water), there has been a movement in the Republican party from its members being true conservatives to becoming the far-right, always lying "wack-a-doodles" that they are today.
Even many Republicans today agree that there are very few "true Goldwater conservatives" in today´s GOP. This is so true, that most likely, past famous conservatives such as William F Buckley Jr., Dwight Eisenhower, Ronald Reagan, Barry Goldwater, Richard Nixon and even Edmund Burke (The recognized "father of conservatism".) would never be allowed in today´s Republican party. These staunch "conservatives of their time" were much too "liberal" based on today´s GOP right-wingers.
To prove this point of past conservative political positions, in the GOP´s election platform for the 1956 Presidential Election between Dwight Eisenhower and Adlai Stevenson, the Republican platform then supported: America´s labor unions, Social Security, and government sponsored health care for the elderly. (I´m not kidding. You can Google it!) Those items would never make it in today´s Republican platform.
But just why did the past basic Republican party decide to change from their traditional ways to the far-right extremists that they are today?
It currently appears that these latest results were due to the abilities of a small extreme fringe group within the party, with lots of financial support from corporate America, being able to take over the Republican party. They did this by using their extreme causes such as abortion, racism and anti- social support programs, plus very large and supportive financing from multi-national corporations, DC lobbyists and the US military industrial complex.
One must remember, that after the Republicans had brought the nation to the 1929 Wall Street Crash and the subsequent Great Depression of the 1930´s, the nation´s voters went totally Democratic. FDR´s "New Deal" eventually kept the Republicans out of political power for over 2 decades.
During those years, the "changing of the guard" occurred as the United States had become recognized as the most powerful nation in the world. In addition, the US had developed the largest and most successful middle class...ever! The US was now the envy of, and the leader of the whole free world.
The GOP had to fight these past liberal successes for years.
However, when they did finally take over the reins of national power in the late 1960´s, it became clear that they had no capability for being both up-front and honest while also being able to govern a nation. The conservatives only know how to govern in an authoritarian atmosphere or in a corporate world where the president acts more like a dictator, instead of being a leader that is prone to support political compromise. This is of course, a major requirement within any functioning two-party democracy.
Today, the far right has no workable ideas for the country, especially a nation in economic turmoil. And since the GOP is stuck with their philosophy against political compromise and collective bargaining, a woman´s right to choose and other extreme positions, they can only give lip-service to supporting the real will of the American people. They have instead continued to follow the desires and the directions of their corporate masters with their large financial coffers and their goals for taking control of the country as a true American Oligarchy.
As examples of this situation, twice in the last 100 years, this country has had two major economic disasters after government regulations were removed by Republican administrations. Yet, today´s conservatives still push for their bogus, regulation-free approach of, "Free Markets". Free markets have never worked in the history of the world. Yet the Republicans continue to support a failed economic philosophy. Their only choice for today is to continue to tell lies about their so called economic "solutions", even though there is plenty of available proof that, "that dog don´t hunt".
To demonstrate about all their continuing stream of lies, just consider all the misinformation and Republican, "talking-points", that are spewed on a 24 hour basis by the right-wing FOX Network. Today, there could actually be an alternate network that could easily survive full-time, 24 hours a day, just for de-bunking all the false information that is offered daily on FOX.
Since the conservatives can´t win by telling the truth, they have instead decided to keep repeating multiple "untruths". The same can be said about most of the right-wing media hosts such as: Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levine, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, Bill O´Reilly, Britt Hume, Charles Krauthammer, Judge Andrew Napolitano and many others. Unfortunately, many ill-informed working Americans are buying all the right-winger´s piles of, "Pure Bunkum".
In other words, to answer the question as to, "Why did the Republican party move so far to the right?" The answer is that since they have nothing of value to offer the American middle class and the general American public that will stand up to a real test of time, they have chosen to just lie to the public and to follow their corporate masters and the extreme dictates of the fringe components within their party.
The only way this will stop is for the American public to become both informed and involved for their own self-interest in order to properly "right the American ship-of-state".
However, based on the massive amounts of money that is being poured into the untruthful "Republican Message Machine", that will not be an easy task. And the conservative activist US Supreme Court´s, Citizen-United decision is certainly not going to help the situation for the 2012 elections.
If the conservatives do win in the end, the America, as we want it to again become, will only be a thing of the past.
