Beware the filter bubble...Beware the filter bubble...Beware the filter bubble. Beware...
BEWARE THE FILTER BUBBLE!
They are trying to filter your information! They are tailoring your personal preferences and limiting your ability to reach a wider audience. They are automatically editing your information without your permission. Who are they?
1. Facebook. 2. Google. 3. Netflix. 4. Yahoo News. 5. This American Chronicle.
About this talk
As web companies strive to tailor their services (including news and search results) to our personal tastes, there's a dangerous unintended consequence: We get trapped in a "filter bubble" and don't get exposed to information that could challenge or broaden our worldview. Eli Pariser argues powerfully that this will ultimately prove to be bad for us and bad for democracy.

What to do about automatic internet editing! Choose as much variation as possible, even if you have absolutely no interest in the subject. For example, I suggest you Google the question: 1. How much money does Google make creating automated programs that limit your freedom to choose? How much money does Facebook make limiting your choices? How hot does it get on Mars? How do governments regulate Banks? How many have died in Afghanistan? Mix it up! Never repeat yourselves on the web! Never click on the same things twice! Have a great time screwing up and screwing with the automatic systems that want to limit your freedom to choose and send you where they want you to go! If it means sending the Web to hell, say hello to the Devil for me! We can always go back to writing letters on paper.
