Satya Sai Baba: A Spiritual Guru and Spiritual Leader To The World

Dr Surendra Bhakta Pradhanang
Spiritualism is better than wealth and greater than name and fame in the mortal world. Nothing is immortal except than God. God is truth. A real devotee can understand God and Divine power. Here is Sai Baba who was a spiritual leader – an Indian Guru – to human beings. He was philanthropist as well as educator. By birth he was an intelligent and charitable being. His mother Eswaranmma asserted was by miraculous conception and experience. Born on November 23, 1926 by name Sathyanarayan Raju in Puttaparti, India, Sai Baba established a trust of more than $ 8.9 billion and several spiritual centres in Mumbai, Hydrabad and Chennai. He built hospital in Banglore and funded for water supply projects in India. In 1940, at the age of 14, he declared himself an 'avtar'or reincarnation of Hindu holy man named Sai Baba of Shrdi, a town in Western Maharashtra State, who died in 1918.

Sai Baba was a man of miracles – a superman to the earth. He would create vibuti ( holy ash) along with different objects such as kukum, turmeric powder, holy water, Shiva lingas, statues of deities made of brass and gold, sugar candy, fruits, herbs, amrita (a fragrant necktar – like honey) and so on. Several devotees were impressed and followed his teachings and ideologies not only in India but all over the world as well. In 2011, he was listed by the Watkins Review as one the 100 most spiritually influential people in the world. The Sathya Sai Organization states there are almost 1200 Sathya Sai Baba Centres in 114 countries. Presidents and Prime Ministers from India became his devotees. Sai Baba has had millions of his followers in 178 countries. He was in philosophy that his followers need not to give up their original religion. He said, "My objective is the establishment of Sanatana dharma, which believes in one God as propitiated by the founders of all religions. So none has to give up his religion or deity".

Sai Baba, Great religious Guru was not exceptional in criticism. Some vested interest group of people badly criticized against Sri Sathya Sai Baba.It was deeply pained and anguished to real devotees by the wild, reckless and concocted allegations. Jealousy was the motive behind the allegations levelled at him.

We know Jesus Christ underwent lots of hardships and was put to the cross because of jealousy. His good work influenced people and gathered a large number of followers. One of his disciples was Judas who badly betrayed him. In those days, there was one Judas, but today there are thousands even more. So bad hearted persons became Judases to Sai Baba too. The article entitled Divine Downfall was published in The Daily Telegraph was an example in this regard.Baba´s goodwill was not harmed by the negative stories spoken or published. In fact, the more he was critised, the more people came to see him.

Satya Sai Baba passed away in April 24, 2011 at age of 84 (November 23, 1926 – April 24, 2011).At mourning time of sad demise of Baba,Dr Pradhanang gave emotional condolence message as such:

Dr Surendra Bhakta Pradhanang of Nepal who is Father of Village Tourism and Chairman of Kathmandu Research Centre deeply mourned on the sad demise of Sri Satya Sai Baba - Hindu Guru - of spiritualism.Dr Pradhanang said that Sai Baba taught and inspired millions of people of the world to pass a moral and meaning life. Gurus' death is an irreparable loss to mankind. He is a spiritual leader for well-being of people of the world. He passed away at the age of 84.

Dr Pradhanang opined in his statement, " Man can not be satisfied with wealth, property and high title alone for long run. These are ultimately nothing for the mortal world. One day every born person must die. So we must follow spiritualism and understand spiritual vision in human life in time. God who is all in all shows the right way of salvation with spiritual wisdom and knowledge. Here, the real Guru is most respected and important in this regard."

Dr Pradhanang added that Sai Baba is the symbol of love, affection and passion. He provided great service of humanity and he will be remembered for ages to come ahead by people in the world.

Sai Baba himself said that he will come back after 7 or 8 years as in the name of Prem Baba that will be his third Sai Baba – incarnation of God in near future ahead.

On the other side, Sai Baba of Shrdi (1835 – October 15, 1918) is believed to be the same incarnation of God. He had love to his devotees and selfless attitude. He explained how God is supreme and His devotees should trust Him and love Him. God is omnipresent in all living things and everything on earth must be treated with sincere love and respect. One should surrender one´s egoism at God´s feet and trust one´s Guru. He is ´Satguru´- an enlightened spiritual teacher who never spoke about past life.Sai is the word originated from Sanskrit that means ´Sakshat Eshwar´ or the devine.Baba means ´father´ – grandfather – the respected word in Indo-Aryan language.Hence,Sai Baba symbolizes ´holy father or saintly father. He had no love for perishable substances but he concerned with self-realization. He taught a moral code of love, helping others, charity, peace, and devotion to God and Guru. His famous epigram was "Sabka Malik Ek" (One God governs all).Sai Baba adopted ascetic life sand mediated under a neem tree while taking his seat at ´Asana´.

Sai Baba´s three spiritual instructions were such as Bhakti Yoga, Jnana Yoga and Karma Yoga. God penetrates everything and every being as His Universe. All fate is determined by ´Karma´. It is instructed by Sai Baba when anyone or creature comes to you, you do not discourteously drive him away, but receive him well and treat him with due respect. God will be pleased if you give water to the thirsty, bread to the hungry, clothes to the naked, and your yard or verandah to strangers for accommodation or rest. If someone asks for money, you do not give him nor bark him like a dog instead. He left this mortal world at age of 83.

Sai Baba advised his devotees with the following considerations:

1. Whosever puts their feet on Shrdi soil, their sufferings will come to an end.

2. The wretched and miserable will rise to joy and happiness as soon as they climb

the steps of the mosque Dwarakamayi.

3. I will be ever active and vigorous even after leaving this earthy body.

4. My tomb will bless and speak to the needs of my devotees.

5. I will be active and vigorous even from my tomb.

6. My mortal remains will speak from my tomb.

7. I am ever living to help and guide all who come to me, and .who seek refuge in me.

8. If you look at me, I look at you.

9. If you cast your burden on me, I will surely bear it.

10. If you seek my advice and help, I will be given to you at once.

11. There will be no want in the house of my devotee.

Still now, devotees of Sai Baba would pay homage to Shirdi of India and talked in meditation and prayed for better life, prosperity and peace.

Sai Baba suggested reading holy books e.g. Ramayan, Vishnu Sahasranan, Bhagavad

Gita, Yoga Vasistha, Quran and so on. He always encouraged for praying and chanting God´s name to his devotees.

We, the people of mortal world should understand the correlation of God and Sadguru, who has had selfless attitude, love and affection to everything and every being. We always pray God and we will be blessed by Guru and cared by God all the time in the world.
