When Political Pandering And Racial Bias Prevail.
There are things we know and things we think we know. If we go only by what the mainstream media is reporting we only get half the story, the bad half. President Bush declared the Gulf coast a disaster area two days prior to Katrina coming ashore. That automatically set relief efforts into motion, FEMA, the Red Cross, the Salvation Army all saddled up and headed for the Gulf Coast. Those going to New Orleans, were stopped near Baton Rouge by the Louisiana Governors office, and told to go no further as reported by spokespersons form both agencies.
It’s incumbent of every city with large populations to have an evacuation plan. The plan shouldn’t be left for the Fed’s alone too do it. The Mayor of New Orleans told his people in the event of a disaster to go to the Superdome, take three of four days food and water with you. No transportation would be provided for them. The Mayor of New Orleans is blaming everyone except himself and his administration for the failures in his city.
The majority of the blame for inaction belongs on the Governor of Louisiana. FEMA, the Salvation Army, the Red Cross were all there waiting for her permission to go forth and give aid and comfort. Only the national media showed up in New Orleans. Was this a deliberate effort by a Democratic Governor to embarrass a Republican President? As we listen to leaders of the Democratic Party, it sounds more plausible by the day. Some are getting the impression since all other attempts to discredit President Bush have failed this is the ultimate challenge. President Bush did what any president would have done. He set government agencies in motion and expected them to carry out a plan. A president’s personal involvement can only go so far. We are a nation of people not a nation of one-man rule. No one man can be held totally responsible for the failures of dozens of federal agencies. Or the inaction by a state governors office. Or the inaction of a city mayors office. All bare equal responsibility.
Every state and city in America has opened its doors to accommodate disaster victims. Many countries have sent personnel, Canada, Mexico and who knows how many disaster relief experts from other countries are here working to clean up the mess. The media hasn’t been reporting the accomplishment, just the misery. There’s no feel-good news, just bad news coming to us. Good news is reported and falls way below the fold or on a back page of the papers, this is as usual. TV reports fair no better only the Internet tells the facts as they are, even then we need to be couscous.
The most egregious remarks coming out of this disaster are those of Democratic Congressional Leaders, Black Democrats, Prominent Black Leaders, and Black Celebrities charging President Bush and the Republican Party targeted blacks. These remarks fall below contempt. We can say little about those who use a disaster such as this to advance an agenda. There are no words to describe such filth.
David Gregory [MSNBC Reporter] say in a recent article, The Whitehouse in out to repair damage control. This implies the President has something to cover up. Mr. Gregory could have just as well said, “Democrats are out to destroy the president.” The title wouldn’t have effected his story in the least. Rather than recite facts as reporters of old did, Mr. Gregory recites polls, so much for unbiased reporting. We live in a hi-tech world, we will necessarily need to adjust to this type of reporting. Lets hope facts can override statistical probabilities, [ If “A” is fact then B, C, and D must also be true.] Mr. Gregory leans in that direction all too often.
What can we surmise from what we know so far of events along the Gulf Coasts of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama? 1] New Orleans is getting the majority of the national medias attention, not because if sustained the most damage per capita, rather because it’s the most photogenic. 2] The majority of the blame is being placed on the President because that’s where blame’s placed by those who failed to do their jobs, i.e. congress, governors, and mayors. 3] Why is there no national media coverage of Mobile Alabama? Could it be because the Governor of Alabama is a Republican? He has no quarrel with the Fed’s over their assistance to his State.
The national media will deny they’re fueling the politics and racial debate of Hurricane Katrina. How else would we know about the hostility if not for the media?
