Democrats Play Politics While Bodies Float in New Orleans

A recent USAToday/CNN poll reveals that only 13 percent of Americans blame President Bush for the slow federal response to Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath. In the same poll, when asked if people should be fired from their government job, 63 percent said NO. The mainstream news media and the Democrat Party almost suffered a mass coronary as a result. For days and day they've been blaming the President and his administration for the deaths resulting from the worst natural disaster in US history. And then they decided to take a poll of the American public to gauge how much damage they inflicted on the hated Republican president. So now we can understand the anger which plagues the Democrat Party and their minions in the news business. Their strategy is not working.

A recent newspaper headline breathlessly announced: "Democrats Criticize Bush Response to Katrina." My first reaction to reading this anticipated news story was to write to the editor of that newspaper and urge him to nominate that reporter for a Pulitzer. What a scoop! What an insightful news story! Imagine that: Bush has the Democrats criticizing him and his administration. As if they haven't been attacking our 43rd President since he won the 2000 election. Earth to New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Washington Post and the big-three networks: The Democrat Party slams President Bush with disparaging remarks almost on a daily basis.

For instance, Howard Dean, the screeching Banshee who leads the Democrat National Committee, criticized the President for visiting the disaster zone and using it as a "photo opportunity." Of course, according to sources at the DNC, Dean was prepared to complain that Bush's visit was too little, too late had the President not the disaster-torn region in a timely manner.

Dean can always be counted on to use a minimal amount of intelligence when pontificating before a crowd of like-minded Democrats. In this case, he decided to revive the race-card attack on Republicans by accusing them of ineffectively reacting to Hurricane Katrina because most of the victims were African-Americans. However, God forbid Howard or his party ever offer solutions to the economic problems of blacks. The man made his remarks about race in spite of the fact that millions and millions of Americans -- whites, blacks, Latinos, Asians -- are pouring millions and millions of dollars into the coffers of charity organizations across the country. Lord help us all if just once we were told by Liberal-Democrats how wonderful America truly is. In the warped mind of the Liberals, they and they alone care. They care so much more than the rest of us. So, therefore, they are superior to us because they care so much. And because they are superior to us -- the unwashed -- they should be in-charge.

Then we have the perpetually shrill Minority Leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi. In her usual vitriolic tone she said, after she met with the President, "He's oblivious...dangerous."

I submit that it is Pelosi who is dangerous. Perhaps the many facelifts she's undergone over the years is beginning to cut off the flow of blood to her brain. When she questioned the qualifications of FEMA boss Mike Brown, I began to question Pelosi's qualifications to critique a massive disaster even before all the bodies are found let alone buried. Is Pelosi an emergency management expert? A law enforcement expert? A military expert? No. She's a political hack from a party filled with political hacks. Like her pal Senator Hillary Clinton, she's an armchair first-responder.

And speaking of Senator Clinton, few are aware that in the midst of the disaster, Madam Hillary sent out press releases and numerous letters to Republican party officials which she conveniently faxed to her pals in the mainstream news media. One such letter/press release was addressed to the Senate Majority Leader, Senator Bill Frist. Unfortunately, Frist wasn't around to read Clinton's expert assessment of emergency response to Katrina. You see, Senator Frist was busy providing emergency medical treatment to Katrina victims. As a physician and surgeon, the supposed meanspirited Republican Party leader treated victims' injuries and preexisting medical problems while the bloviating Senator Clinton patted kids heads in the Houston Astrodome while posing for news photographers.

In addition, Clinton is visiting with her pals who host morning television infotainment programs to denigrate the federal response to Katrina and propose the formation of a 9/11-style commission. Not surprisingly, it never dawned on any of these high-paid, intellectual giants of the news media to ask Mrs. Clinton what her husband did during his eight years as President to prevent the deterioration of the now-famous levees.

The important question today is: why didn't the mainstream news media and the Democrats succeed in vilifying President George W. Bush during the Katrina disaster? Why did only 13 percent of Americans blame Bush? In my humble opinion, it's because of the so-called "new media" -- talk radio, internet news websites, Fox News (to a certain degree), and the infamous blogosphere.

The new media exposed many of the distortions being fed to the American people on a daily basis. The new media reported on stories ignored by the intellectual giants of the old media. For instance, when the Democrats claimed -- and the MSM echoed -- that the reason for the poor federal response to Katrina was that there were not enough National Guard and regular army troops available due to the Iraq War, the bloggers immediately exposed the claim as an out-and-out lie. While the MSM attempted to give the governor of Louisiana (obviously an empty-suit) and the mayor of New Orleans (obviously an inept leader) a pass, the new media analyzed their part in the Katrina tragedy. The editors at the New York Times knew that Bush telephoned Louisiana Governor Blanco prior to the disaster and strongly suggested federal assistance, which she turned down. Yet, the NY Times decided to ignore that part of the story until the new media reported it.

But don't believe for one second this daily attack on Bush will cease. The Democrat leadership is -- according to columnist and psychiatrist Charles Krauthammer -- deranged. That's the only credible explanation for otherwise intelligent people to play hardball politics while bodies are floating down the streets of New Orleans.
