Iraqi prime minister behind the killings of the Iranian opposition members, including seven women

BOSTON, MA - the Iraqi Prime Minister, Nuri Al-Maliki ordered his 2,500 strong military units, to launch an attack (You-tube Video link:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C9DQwjW73Vw) against the unarmed members of the Iranian opposition in Camp Ashraf. In an escalation of his 2009 acts of aggression and atrocities at the order of the fundamentalist regime in Tehran, Al-Maliki expanded the level of bloodletting against the camp members by opening fire on defenseless men and women there.

Based on news reports and press statements from the camp leaders and the Iranian opposition based in Paris, more than 32 people have been killed and hundreds wounded. At least seven women have been killed by Al-Maliki's forces.

Camp Ashraf is home to more than 3400 members of the Iranian opposition, the PMOI, which is a women-led and largest opposition group against Tehran's regime. It is no wonder that Al-Maliki has ordered his troops to target women first and foremost. Among those murdered by Al-Maliki are the following heroines:

Ms. Asieyeh Derakshani

Ms. Faezeh Rajabi

Ms. Nastaran Azimi

Ms. Shahnaz Pahlavani

Ms. Mahdieh Maddadzadeh

Ms. Fatemeh Masieeh

Ms. Marzieh Pourtaghi

Many members of WFAFI have relatives and loved ones at the camp. While WFAFI strongly condemns such crimes against humanity by the Iraqi government, Iranian people hold the United States and the United Nations just as responsible for the murders of these innocent and armless victims and crimes committed in Camp Ashraf. In 2004, United States signed an internationally recognized agreement to protect Camp Ashraf members. The United States has not lived up to its obligation. In fact, based on various media reports, the United States was fully aware of such planned attacks by Al-Maliki's regime and decided not to intervene. The timing of this attack, like the July 2009 attacks on the camp, coincided with the visit of Robert Gates, United State's Defense Secretary, and intends to convey an ominous and unmistakable message of US's tacit green light to Maliki on these attacks.

The Unites States government must set the record straight by intervening immediately. The death toll will continue to rise in light of inaction and silence. Those wounded need immediate medical attention. Such medical assistance would only be available at the nearby American Hospitals in the area.

The time to act is now for all governmental and non-governmental organizations. Such crimes against humanity will not go unnoticed by the Iranian people should there be no urgent actions and sustainable preventive measures to protect the members of Camp Ashraf.

Supportive messages and cry for assistance coming from Iran on behalf of Camp Ashraf residents should set the tone for action.
