Carrie Underwood's Before He Cheats Number, A Little Too Much Anger Maybe?

Judy Ramsook
I must admit that even though I am an ardent music lover, there are only a few country and western singers’ music I can listen to without switching the station or turning off the cd.

Among those country singers whose songs I sometimes listen to are: Wynonna Judd, Shania Twain, some of George Strait’s stuff, a little song titled ‘All My Exes Live In Texas’ comes to mind here, and most recently a song by American Idol winner, Carrie Underwood has been taking up some thoughtful time in my mind.

A little song filled with revenge, anger mixed in with some hurt, titled, ‘Before He Cheats.’ Infidelity is something that can ruin any relationship, and when that occurs, some victims of this become angry, vengeful, and yes, most of all, hurt.

In the Carrie Underwood hit single, Before he Cheats, it seems this character has decided to take things a step further when he, according to the song seems to be two timing the character who is filled with all that hurt, anger and now revenge.

For she, the character is aware that he is seeing someone else, has taken this new interest to a place he must have taken his latest victim, as she uses her spare key to gain access to his ‘souped up four wheel drive’ where she proceeds to do the following:

She ‘carves her name in his leather seat, blows his headlight, and slashes a hole in all four tires,’ a little too much anger one might ask.? Not that this is something no hurt, and angry person has not actually done before, but even though it happened in a song, it still goes to show that some people can still become pretty worked up if they are a victim of infidelity.

And at the end of that tuneful number, a listener can really sense the hurt coming through clearly when Carrie Underwood smoothly rounds off the song with a hurtful sounding ‘woo oh hoo.’

Although there might never come a time when the world will be empty of persons who inflict infidelity on others, I guess the best we can do is hope for the best whenever we welcome the next love interest in our lives. Hope that we don’t become a victim of this infidelity stuff, because in all reality, being a victim of that really sucks, whether you feel anger, revenge, hurt or not. Good song, Carrie Underwood.
