Laser Hair Removal During Pregnancy

Andrew Stratton
First of all, laser hair removal is the process of targeting the follicle with lasers, causing damage to where the follicle grows hairs. Generally, the lasers work on darker hairs through thermal technology. Dark pigment absorbs more light or more energy from the lasers causing the damage to the darker follicles. The darker the follicles the more likely the lasers will be to cause the permanent damage to it, keeping the hairs from successfully growing back.

The technology behind the lasers used in damaging follicles has been around since the late 1990s. It has become more widely used and available over the last few years. Thus, it has become even more affordable and sought after. It is starting to rival in popularity with electrolysis and waxing as a form of removing hairs and treating follicles.

Usually, patients opting to use lasers to treat unruly body and facial follicles will have to undergo several treatments. The treatments are basically spaced out every few months for a year or so. Treatments have to be undergone until the follicles have completely quit producing hairs.

During pregnancy because you are producing hormones to help in the healthy growth of your child, it is possible that you are going to stimulate follicle growth as well. Generally, women grow thicker, darker hairs during pregnancy. This may mean that your body or faces follicles are more productive. The important thing to recognize is that this is not likely to be permanent. Especially as related to body hairs, there have been multiple studies showing that any hairs grown during pregnancy are likely to fall out not long after having the baby.

Most women aren´t comfortable leaving this new follicle productivity untouched. So, we turn to waxing, tweezing or laser hair removal. There is no harm in wanting to get rid of the busy excess. While waxing and tweezing are perfectly safe, there is some debate surrounding lasers or electrolysis.

There are no studies at this time linking laser hair removal affects to the health of a growing baby. This means that no doctors have ruled it either safe or unsafe. Most people believe that it could be undergone during pregnancy without out any side effects to your child. However, because it isn´t completely possible to tell whether or not there will be side effects, you should definitely speak with your doctor to get a second opinion.

Laser hair removal is a safe choice for many women across the world. Removing excess follicle growth through lasers could be a healthy choice for you as well. You should just be prepared to talk to your doctor if you are pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant during the process of receiving your treatments.
