Faith Can Help You Lose Weight

Prof. Dr. Mohamed Elhashemy
A recent research presented at an American Heart Association in 2011 involving 2,433 people, reported that those attending church weekly are almost double the risk of obesity compared than those who never attended. The research was done at Northwestern University. The authors speculate that those who attended church were more likely to have more social connections, which in turn may lead to more opportunities to gather over food encouraging each other to over eat, hence, by time they are most likely becoming obese.

I believe that the same trend is observed with some Muslims who attend frequent religious events and gatherings which are associated with feasting then they tend to over eat fattening foods, hence becoming overweight or even obese.

WHO statistics showed that six Arab nations are among the fattest thirty all over the world. These nations are Kuwait, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Emirates, Qatar and Bahrain.

The obesity ranking of these six Arab countries indicates that their citizens have eating behavior that contradicts with the teachings of prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him). Prophet Muhammed said what can be broadly translated as following: It is enough for Adam´s descendents to eat only Luqaimat (small volume of food) just sufficient to maintain the body´s required energy.

In 2005, I started my innovated Luqaimat diet, which is driven from the long-forgotten Luqaimat Sunnah (the term Sunnah refers to the sayings and living habits of prophet Muhammed).

I succeeded in helping several hundreds of obese people to follow this diet, and it worked greatly. They lost an average of 32.5 kg per year and more important, they kept the lost weight off.

In the following years, a booming number of obese people followed the Luqaimat diet. This was due to outstanding reputation of success of this diet.

In year 2010, tens of thousands of Arabs in several countries, followed Luqaimat diet, they admired it because of three reasons:

1. It helped them to lose weight smoothly and keeping lost weight off without banning their favorite foods.

2. It helped to live in a healthy way.

3. It gave them a sense of reward for obeying Prophet Muhammad Sunnah.

Scientific researchers agree that the ultimate diet is to eat less. That is why Luqaimat diet is propagated very fast nowadays.

For the above three reasons, I think that Luqaimatrian Arabs whether they attend religious events or not will never go fat, in contrast to results of researchers at Northwestern University.
