PETA Gala Celebrates 25 Years of Dogged Devotion as Lone Voice Howling in the Wind for Animal Rights
In addition to ground-breaking public awareness campaigns to stop cruelty to animals, PETA’s Animal Emergency Fund aids animals that are neglected or abandoned in disasters. PETA offers tips on creating emergency plans that include pets on their Website www.peta.com. PETA’s efforts to stop people from being ordered to abandon their pets in the wake of Katrina by evacuation officials (often by being threatened that they must leave their pet to die if they wish to get vital medicine) was instrumental in FEMA just yesterday reversing their policy requiring evacuees to abandon their pets. Not only are animals a vital part of the family, but they are helping rescuers search for the living and the deceased in Mississippi and Louisiana. PETA continues to protect our best friends.
This unique PETA fundraising event is dedicated to honoring those who have given their voice and time to actively promote the rights of animals. Special honorees Alec Baldwin and Morrissey will receive the Linda McCartney Memorial Award. The 25 piece robed alternative rock band from Texas, Polyphonic Spree, will perform the mind-blowing sight and sound extravaganza they are known for. Sheila E’s band with extra surprise guests will perform at the after party.
Just a few of the many award recipients and celebrities expected to appear at the gala will be Paul McCartney, Pamela Anderson, Fred Willard, Reverend Al Sharpton, Bea Arthur, Jillian Barberie, Ravi Shankar, Sharon Osbourne, Jamie Lee Curtis, Andy Dick, Heather Mills McCartney, Kathy Najimy, Eric Roberts, Dennis Rodman, and the list is growing every day.
