Serving This President...Not So Much A Pleasure

Megan Donovan
We have such an appetite for scandal that our eyes can so quickly be taken off the real ball. We choose the oddest hills to die on.

But here we are nevertheless.

We cannot compare this to the actions taken by President Clinton. Apples and oranges. Clinton ensured he would not have issues like this by making sure at the beginning that the US attorneys were "his people". It's a political move; it's always a political move.

This administration decides to fire 8 US attorneys, for illegitimate reasons, because they refused to pursue baseless investigations, by slandering their names, and only after the Patriot Act allowed more freedoms in doing it under the radar. And they are surprised it's coming under great scrutiny?

And what did this administration then do? Immediately go into "lie your ass off" mode and began to lie about their complicity, lie about who orchestrated it and why and immediately say "this was not done for political reasons". Mr. Bush, so many people who have your ear and no one mentioned to you that "political reasons" might be your most escapable response? As soon as you put their work ethic in question, you opened Pandora's Box. What reality do you actually think you can rewrite here? You fired any US attorney who would not go along with your demands to push voter fraud after the elections. You used leeway you created for yourself in the Patriot Act to replace them without confirmation. You beautifully choreographed an action easily read as corrupt. Your bed Mr. Bush - you have to [lie] in it.

It's almost unfortunate that issues like this become the bone we are gnarling over. The serious treatment of this administration should not be scandal hunting but more - of all his offenses, what can we make stick. Instead of investigating the crimes committed by this administration, we rather keep poking a finger into the side of this wounded animal. So, you will pardon me if I remain under-shocked at this "what has become the norm" behavior by this White House. I would rather we get our eyes back on the real ball in play here.
