Alan Greenspan: “Being there.” You need more pay cuts to end disparity between the rich and poor.

There was a black comedy movie sometime in the early 1980’s titled “Being There.” It starred comedian Peter Sellers in the role of Chancy a gardener to a wealthy English gentlemen. Chancy was a severely mentally impaired individual who knew nothing but how to garden and watch television. Upon the death of his employer, Chancy was given his choice of his deceased employer’s clothes and forced to leave the only home he ever knew.
While wearing the clothes of his wealthy employer he was hit and injured by an automobile that belonged to a desperately ill financial investor and industrialist who let his doctors treat Chancy for an accidental injury he suffered. Chancy spoke only rarely, because he was an idiot. He only talked about gardening and television.
Chancy was mistaken for a financial genius, because of the way he dressed in the wealthy mans clothes and ramblings that seemed to be related to activity in the stock market. People tend to believe what best fits their personnel perspective of life.
He became a hero, was given broad exposure in the news media, advised the president and every one in the investment industry who listened to every word he had to say about the time to plant and grow and harvest. He was talking about gardening and the wealthy elite thought he was talking about their investment portfolios. Of course Chancy was a fool and had no knowledge of the stock market at all, but that made no difference to those in power.

Now Mr. Greenspan wants to reduce the American “income gap” between the very rich and the rest of us by reducing our income further with more foreign labor. It is an equality issue for him.
He isn’t talking about bringing in more cheap politicians, lobbyists, Chief Operating Officers, or wealthy Bankers and investors, or any of the other wealthy elite that have all the money in the U.S. He is talking about finishing off the American middle class workers. He wants to accomplish what the wealthy elite failed to do during the last robber baron era of great monopolies in the 1800’s
It may be easier for our country to eliminate the wage gap between the poor of the country by taxing the poor more to assure they have no discretionary income. Then everyone’s wages could be reduced so we can’t provide for necessities of life. That way all of us but the very wealthiest elite, bankers, investors, industrialists, politicians, lobbyists, C.E.O.’s could be equally in abject poverty. If they lost any of their wealth of course it would be “bad for the economy.”
This higher poor tax solution would end need to bring more illegal alien invaders into the country and make it easier for the rich to earn more money. They could put us in debtor’s prison or cut off our hands and hang us if we steal loves of bread.
The Greenspan team seems to recognize the hazard of great disparity in income between very wealthy and poor of the country but has no idea what it means. Reduction of skilled labor wages has already happened in the United States by the 3.5 million jobs lost to overseas firms. Millions of hi tech jobs are leaving the country as a result of the “free trade” agreements. Excess unemployment of skilled workers is cutting wages severely now. Surely, someone must know that has occurred in the banking industry or are they all just a bunch Chancy’s?

It takes a massive propaganda effort to convince people who live in a country with the 37th best health care system while paying more than double what anyone else pays for it, are making no real increases in income while bankers and international corporate profits are soaring to the highest rates in the history of the country without someone becoming suspicious about the equity of the system.

Greenspan even in his demented state still has the audacity to suggest the way out of this dilemma is to lie to the people some more and say we need more people to reduce your wages so everyone is screwed equally. That takes a lot of courage given the current state of affairs in the country and attack on the middle class workers that has left most in difficult financial positions as our population in deep poverty increased to 16%.
This outrageous Greenspan pronouncement is reminiscent of the Marie Antoinette quote telling the starving poor of France, “Let them eat cake.” That was immediately before the French revolution and mass beheadings of the elite. This type of inflammatory rhetoric is not something the country needs right now, and Greenspan can not be excused for the honesty he feels about the working people of this country. He is representing the Bushite Coup and elite very well as he always has.
