Terrorist confesses to role in almost every plot except JFK!

Ian Brockwell
Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, according to a US transcript, has confessed to playing a leading role in more than 30 alleged terrorist plots, and claims to be the mastermind behind the 9/11 attack. In his confession he also stated that “I decapitated with my blessed right hand the head of the American Jew Daniel Pearl”

This could all be true, but doubts are being raised on this subject. Khalid Sheikh Mohammed was arrested in Pakistan in March 2003 and held there (and maybe other countries), apparently in CIA run prisons, for three and a half years before being moved to Guantanamo in 2006. Although he has said he was not speaking under duress at the hearing, he had made allegations of torture earlier.

It is quite possible, especially if the torture allegations are true, that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed would admit to almost any plot under such circumstances (including the JFK assassination). Some have suggested that he may have admitted to his involvement in many of the plots to support his “ego”, and give the impression that his importance is greater than it is.

Unfortunately, some parts of the transcript were edited, including further information in respect of the alleged torture, and this could provide more supporting evidence of his guilt, or create even more doubts.

Much of the information provided by Khalid Sheikh Mohammed lacked any real detail, and some of the plots mentioned did not occur.

Unless we are allowed to hear the full transcript and the media are permitted to attend such hearings, some members of the public are going to continue questioning the validity of such claims. It might also help if interrogations of suspected terrorists are carried out in a less secretive manner, so that we can be sure any confessions were not obtained by forceful means (like torture).

We all hope that those responsible for the murder of Daniel Pearl and the 9/11 attack are caught and punished, but can we be absolutely sure that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed is that person, or should we continue looking? We must be careful not to “hang” the wrong person in our hurry to obtain closure, if we make a mistake, the guilty are free to strike again.
