Are You Addicted To Not Being Alone?

Judy Ramsook
Most people who come from large families do not like to be alone. It is because all their lives they have had someone to keep them company. And there is nothing wrong with wanting company around all the time, but there are some individuals who are so accustomed to having company around constantly that they do not know what to do with themselves if they find themselves in a situation in which they have to spend an ample amount of time alone.

Some such individuals become restless, are proned to getting scared easily, entertaining frightening thoughts and some may have panic attacks. They do not know how to spend time with themselves because they have never had to do that considering all the siblings they had as playmates when they were growing up. So how does one go about breaking this addiction to company?

This is one addiction many people might not want to break, but one thing they can do is learn how to cope if there comes a time when they do find themselves alone. And with so many gadgets around today, that is something that can be easily accomplished.

Let’s face it. We all have a favourite past time or hobby. If someone enjoys listening to music, he/she can do that, the same can be applied to reading, watching a movie or television show, surf the internet, or if you would rather sleep away that temporary alone time, you can take a nap.

On a personal note, I do not have eleven or twelve siblings, but if I have to be alone for a couple hours or so I can manage without going into panic mode. And it is important for people to learn how to cope with being alone, because you never know when that will happen, but if and when it does occur, at least you will know how to cope with being with yourself for a set period of time.
