A CORRUPT UK couple told yesterday how they milked £75,000 ($145,254.17) in child tax credits for FIFTEEN non-existent kids.

Gambling addict David Wilshaw and alcoholic partner Nancy Stevenson, both 58, ripped off the social system for five years using a massive loophole they discovered. Wilshaw, who has spent 25 years in jail for a series of crimes, legally obtained child tax credits for Nancy’s two kids when they came to live with them in their teens.But when he rang the tax credit helpline nobody asked to see birth certificates or other ID for the children.

He then made up names for 15 kids — and pocketed up to £445 a week plus £113 joint income support.They blew it all on booze and gambling and are now squatting in a pal’s house.Last week cops and 12 Inland Revenue investigators arrived on their doorstep and arrested them for fraud.They were bailed until May during a police and Inland Revenue probe and David is expecting to return to jail.

Wilshaw, who hasn't worked since 1987, said: “I'm doing a public service by identifying this massive loophole. “I claimed for a couple of twins, then another and another. It was incredibly easy. Nobody ever checked up on us until last week.” David and Nancy picked up their checks every Tuesday in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset. South England. Wilshaw said: “We blew it all with my gambling and Nancy’s drinking.”

The pair said they were prepared to pay back the £75,000 at £10 a week. It will take 150 YEARS. Her Majesty's Revenue & Customs spokeswoman could not comment on the case for legal reasons but said: “It is far from easy to cheat the tax credit system.”

Neale Boortz will latch on to this no doubt but which is worse? The occasional case you see of exploitation of a giving nation and a giving Government or the greed of men who are already rich and endowed with every good fortune that the rest of us might wish for as in the Enron case? I cant say that all is wonderful with the British Welfare System but why some try to make it look like a means of debauchery and corruption escapes me. What a lot of nonsense also Neal spouts about Canada for the same reasons. In the UK there might be a wait but only if the issue is not life threatening etc. When a friend of mine in her twenties was diagnosed with a Thyroid problem need daily doses of thyroxin for the rest of her life she immediately became exempt from ALL prescription charges. Quite often here the elderly are reported as having to choose whether to eat or whether to get their meds. I have to say though that I also have heard stories whereby a senior was diagnosed by his doctor in Pensacola with all sorts of ailments but when the guy explained that he was not in a financial position to deal with any of them they all miraculously vanished within six months? I myself have not taken medicine of any kind since coming here in 2001 purely because I cant afford to. A tylenol puts me out for the count. I sleep my ailments off. Most of the Doctors in the UK are Indian and very pleasant and educated of course. Humble as well and usually a choice of five in a clinic if you don't get on well with a particular one. I sometimes did not see my doctor for four years. In my 58 years in the UK I only had fatty lumps removed that were sebaceous cysts and moles that got bigger over time and unsightly. That required a plastic surgeon and I waited a year but who cares? I see a lot of such moles that get ugly on people over here and wish for them that they could have them removed as I did? Don't let them fool you that the Social Systems in Canada and Britain are failing. I know where I would rather be with a heart complaint.
