Ventura County Ballet Company goes wild with "The Jungle Book," May 21-22
Based on the notable series "The Jungle Books," written more than 100 years ago by Rudyard Kipling, the VCBC breathes new life into an enduring tale with dazzling costumes, rhythmic music and modern twists on classic dance moves.
The Jungle Book follows Mowgli, a young boy born into the jungle and raised by a pack of wolves. Mowgli learns about the jungle and friendship from his animal kingdom friends while attempting to avoid Shere Khan, the Bengal tiger who is determined to banish him from the jungle world. Mowgli´s adventures lead him to the ultimate realization that his rightful place is in the human world and not with his jungle friends.
Directed and choreographed by Rodney Gustafson of Santa Barbara´s State Street Ballet, the show melds the talents of professional and pre-professional dancers from throughout Ventura County and combines contemporary ballet, jazz and even tango to create a unique performance.
"The Ventura County Ballet Company is pleased to be partnering with Rodney Gustafson on "The Jungle Book" May 21st and 22nd," said Kathleen Noblin, founder and executive director of VCBC. "Milan Svoboda's exciting score with a neoclassical style ballet will please everyone. Rodney Gustafson's creative vision with our talented dancers results in a visually beautiful, highly professional and very family-friendly performance."
