"Godless" Coins A Big Hit On eBay
"An unknown number of new U.S. $1 coins bearing the image of George Washington are missing the words 'In God We Trust' and other lettering along the edges, the U.S. Mint said on Wednesday."
It is unclear how the mistake occurred or how many of the coins are in circulation, according to the Mint statement. The Mint said it would make necessary technical adjustments in the manufacturing to eliminate the defect."
I'm sure God doesn't want his name inscribed on "filthy lucre". What a sick joke that the motto, "In God We Trust", appears on all of our coins, when it's quite obvious that it's money where we place our trust.
The inscription "In God We Trust" should be replaced with the message: In Alan Greenspan We Trust.
But seriously in a secular democracy our currency should not bear any religious messages.
The "godless" coins have been selling on eBay for hundreds of dollars. In a perfect world currency bearing the inscription honoring God would be phased out, and it would be coins still bearing the motto "In God We Trust" that would be selling for hundreds of dollars on eBay.
The Mint claims the coins were a mistake, but maybe it was divine providence -- God telling us to stop mocking Him by falsely claiming we trust in Him.
