Getting the Perfect Shooting Jackets
1. Before you get your measurement, dress yourself up first with your hunting attire. This would make sure that your jacket would fit you just right afterwards. If you do not do it, chances are you will be either a jacket that is too tight or too loose for you.
2. Prepare a record for your measurement and do not just trust your memory. Start measuring by getting the horizontal width of your chest, waist, hips and legs. The same when measuring for an ordinary dress or polo, measure accurately by having the tape straight. This would make sure that you get the correct measurement all the time.
3. In dressmaking and haberdashery, there is what they call a Q-point, which is normally at the point of the shoulder. A Q-point is where all the measurements of a dress or jacket has its starting point. So stand upright when doing this. Slouching during a measurement will give you inaccurate measurements.
When choosing a sportcoat shooting jacket, choose one with a good leather material on the front of the shoulder. The leather is the protection of the jacket from your butt or rifle which you carry all the time.
Depending on the actual weather of the hunting season on your state, a jacket should be able to keep you warm when it gets cold and not to warm on a sunny day. There are many different kinds of clothes materials. Durability should be your prime consideration. It is not practical that after a few hunts, your jacket would have scratches and will not be wearable any more.
Colours of this kind of jacket are available only on earth tones or neutral ones. Designs will vary on the number and type of pockets it has. A good shooting jacket is something you wear not as a part of s suit. Like any sportcoat, it should be worn independently of your other hunting attire.
