Captain America Is Dead: Good Riddance!

Robert Paul Reyes
Marvel Comics' Captain America made his debut in 1941, he was a blond hair, blue-eyed superhero fighting Nazis and the Japanese in World War II.

The red white and blue costumed action hero represented the America of the 1940's, because for all practical purposes minorities did not exist.

The America of the 21st century is a multi-racial democracy, and we aren't at war for our survival, but simply to protect our sources of oil.

Captain America overstayed his welcome, his overbearing patriotism is no longer appreciated -- not even in an ironic way.

Thank goodness Marvel Comics finally killed off Captain America, I am not mourning his death.

Comic books are a dying art form, and ultra-patriotic comic book heroes don't even work as comedy.

Marvel Comics should replace Captain America in its pantheon of heroes with a Captain United Nations or a Captain Rainbow Warrior.
