Oromo and other Ethiopia Diaspora urged to return; help economy
The president of Adama University, Oromia, Professor Mohammed Bedaso asked Oromo and other Ethiopian Diaspora to return home and assist the country in fighting poverty. The University President spoke before the national 111th year celebration of Adwa Victory saying the current generation, leaders and scholars should reflect the victory in unity of Ethiopians more than a century ago and work hard to fight poverty and speed up development.
He restated that the Ethiopian Diaspora have found pride in their heroic ancestors and they should now give back and extricate the people from the quagmire of poverty by using their knowledge, finance and labor. Indicating that the country has not used its natural resources for long, the professor reiterated that Ethiopians in Diaspora should get together during the approaching Ethiopian millennium, pull together their knowledge and experiences and stand in the forefront to execute the development strategy of the country to make it join the middle income nations by the year 2020.
Professor Mohammed, who lived for a long time in Europe and America himself stated that he voluntarily returned home to assist the development endeavor with his knowledge and said several Ethiopians who are serving other countries should also come back home to give back & change the livelihood of their compatriots. Eventhough Ethiopia enjoyed its highest GDP increase two years ago, its progresss has still been high since then. Various development projects are currently in progress everywhere, particularly an irrigation project in Kuyyu District of Oromia, road maintenance and new colleges in the Oromia state. Also primary schools have been constructed and maintained at a cost of over twelve million birr in various woredas of Bale Zone, Oromia State. Wollega Univesity in Oromia state is one of the 12 new Universities in the country that will go operational this year. Similar developments have also occured in other states around the country.
The President of Adama University, which is also a new university, said the youth should also be prepared to repeat the victory of our heroic fathers & mothers 111 years ago during the coming millenium, thus becoming heroes of development.
