Torlon Material – The Different Types Available
Electrical grade
Electrical grade Torlon material is designed specifically to have outstanding compressive strength and has the highest elongation of all of the grades of the substance. It is used to provide electrical insulation as well as impact strength. Give its property of high dielectric strength, it is commonly used as electrical insulators and connectors.
Bearing grade
Bearing grade Torlon material is designed to be used in parts that are exposed to a lot of friction, and that wear easily. It has as low expansion rate and has an almost non-slip capability, which together with the low friction coefficient makes it ideal for parts like non-lubricated bearings, bearing cages, seals and compressor parts. This ensures that these parts are more durable and will last longer when exposed to friction.
Glass reinforced grade
Glass reinforced Torlon material is reinforced by up to thirty percent glass and is compression molded. It is similar to injection molded grades in that it works best for structural needs. It is the grade of choice for bigger shapes or structures where a high degree of dimension control is needed. It is ideal for electronics and higher load structural applications. This type can be used to manufacture parts like valve plates, rotors, gears, terminals strips and insulators to name but a few.
