The Benefits of Taking Fish Oil Will Last A Lifetime

Michael Byrd
Research is proving, over and over again, that the health benefits of the omega 3 fatty acids found in fish oil will last for your entire lifetime.

What are the benefits of fish oil?

Well, they start with conception and wind up with a reduction in Alzheimer's disease. They also include optimum brain development, higher scores on intelligence tests, less depression, fewer headaches, a reduction in arthritis pain and protection against heart disease, prostate and breast cancer, diabetes and more.

So let's start with conception. Both men and women need adequate amounts of EPA and DHA for healthy conception to take place. For women, the omega 3 fatty acids are important for egg production and for men, they're vital for strong sperm.

And, once a woman is pregnant, the omega 3 fatty acids become vital for her baby's brain development. Fish has traditionally been known as brain food and scientists now understand nearly 70% of a baby’s brain and more than 60% of an adult brain is made up of the long chain omega 3 fatty acids like DHA.

That's why the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has recommended that pregnant and nursing mothers supplement their diet with 1200 mg of pure omega 3 fish oil a day containing balanced ratios of DHA and EPA.

The NIH also recommends that all other adults consume at least 1000 mg of pure omega 3 fish oil a day. Why? Well, take a look at these results.

Clinical trials have revealed that fish oil with EPA and DHA is particularly effective in preventing, reducing and treating inflammatory diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, ulcerative colitis, bursitis, cystitis and other painful disorders.

And, even though it doesn't cure these diseases, fish oil does give safe, natural relief without the negative side effects of most drugs.

Researchers have also shown that DHA and EPA help to naturally prevent heart disease by lowering blood pressure, improving cholesterol readings and preventing the arrhythmia and blood clots that can lead to stroke or sudden cardiac death.

And, last, but definitely not last, researchers report that supplementing the diet with omega 3 fish oil effectively reduces Alzheimer's and significantly improves the survival rate and quality of life in terminally ill cancer patients.

Now you can see that the benefits of supplementing your diet with omega 3 fatty acids are overwhelmingly positive. And, supplementing with fish oil makes even more sense since a lack of these omega 3 fatty acids has been linked to pre-menstrual syndrome, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, violence and suicide.

But a recent survey showed that 85% of Americans are deficient in these fatty acids. And, 98% of pregnant and lactating women get less than 18% of the NIH's recommended amount. That's appalling!

How about this one? Nearly 20% of the American population is so low in DHA and EPA (two of the omega 3 fatty acids) that test methods are not able to detect any in their blood.

Here's your chance to make sure you're not one of the deficient ones. Get started eating more fatty fish (like salmon, tuna, herring, sardines and anchovies) and start taking a high quality, pure fish oil supplements on a daily basis.
