Is Fish Oil Important For Better Health?

Michael Byrd
It seems like everywhere you look some health expert is recommending fish oil. What's the big deal? What can fish oil do for you?

If you'd like to know what fish oil does and how it works without having to wade through boring textbooks, scientific journals and doctoral theses, read on.

One of the most important functions of the omega 3 fatty acids found in fish oil has to do with your heart and cardiovascular system. The omegas 3s in fish oil emulsify fats and plaque that can build up in your arteries and cause high blood pressure and heart disease.

By keeping the fats emulsified, fish oil makes it easier for the body to get rid of them and this, in turn, can lower your blood pressure.

In addition, fish oil with the omega 3 fatty acids EPA and DHA also works to lower and maintain healthy blood pressure by improving the elasticity of your arterial walls and reducing the risk of hardening of the arteries. It also lowers your total cholesterol, your triglycerides and your LDLs (bad cholesterol) and raises your HDLs (good cholesterol).

So, as you can see, there are major heart health reasons for taking omega 3 fish oil.

The next thing to note about fish oil is the incredible effect it has on reducing inflammation and pain. By helping the body to regulate and balance its inflammatory immune response, it reduces the painful symptoms of arthritis, cystitis, bursitis, sinusitis, tendonitis, prostatitis, dermatitis and anything else that ends in "itis."

And, because of these anti-inflammatory properties, fish oil can even decrease the frequency, intensity and duration of headaches and migraines.

The omega 3s in fish oil also play a major role in reproduction and conception. Research shows infertile men have sperm cells deficient in the fatty acid DHA and fish oil can overcome this problem. It's also vitally important that a mother takes fish oil when she's pregnant and nursing for the brain development of her baby.

Studies show fish oil also makes a big difference for people who suffer from depression, by increasing seratonin in the brain. And, besides keeping you happy, seratonin helps you sleep at night.

It's even been recently discovered that fish oil helps you lose weight. How does it work? This is pretty cool. Scientists point out that the fatty acids in fish oil actually cause apoptosis – cellular death – of fat cells. Not a bad side effect of taking fish oil.

There's plenty more research on fish oil, how it works and other results. But, since research shows fish oil has so many great health benefits, does anything else really matter? As long as it's been proven to get the job done naturally, you're all set – unless, of course, you're writing a research paper. Then, I guess, you'll just have to read the boring textbooks, science journals and doctoral theses on how it works.

What you really need to do, is begin taking high quality, pure fish oil supplements and start getting all of these magnificent results for yourself.
