Cynical About Love On Valentine's Day

Judy Ramsook
Today, a day that is devoted to all things romantic, in fact it more or less feels like it’s Christmas Day for lovers everywhere. The only difference being, that today, Cupid gets all the credit, not Jesus Christ.

And since it is such a day, I decided to turn off the radio and even give my music cds a rest. For I fear if I hear one more mushy love song, I will think about screaming. Maybe too much of one thing can be overwhelming.

Even moreso if one has just ended a relationship or has not had one in quite a while. For sometimes, even though all that special attention one receives while he/she is in love can be great, there are times when all those late night telephone conversations, dates and the feeling that you can’t have a moment to yourself can get to a person.

Some people who become obsessed with their mates just don’t know when to give their mate some much needed space. Some of those individuals want to be in your face every minute of your waking time.

And believe it or not, it does not stop there. Some persons will keep conversing with you until you do fall asleep. So between the time someone puts in at work and with his/her mate, there might be little time in a day for one to be with him/herself.

If this is a typical day for most people and they are happy with that, it’s fine. But there might be a small percent of the population that might not mind spending a few seconds of a day with him/herself.

Love songs are great though. For the one who is in love, one of those songs can reinforce the way he/she feels about a certain someone. But if one is not remotely in love with anyone, then he/she might switch the radio station, turn off the radio altogether and even go so far as to give some of those cds a rest. Then of course, there is always instrumental jazz and classical music. No mushy song lyrics coming at you there.
