How to Choose Ringtones to Get Your Groove On
There are several things to consider when choosing the best ringtone or ringtones for your phone. First it is always a good idea to choose tones that you enjoy hearing and that you are going to enjoy hearing for awhile. Of course you can change your ringtone very simply but if you are going to associate specific tones with specific incoming calls then you won't want to be changing them all the time. By selecting a tone or ringer that isn't too annoying or too common you will be far better off.
Avoid the really catchy ringtones that are a flash in the pan, or one hit wonders, or songs that are on everybody's phone. Not only will this just cause confusion but you will also annoy other people as well, especially after the song has gone from fad to flop. Instead think about songs or tunes that mean something to you, that are your standby favorites or that you really can't wait to hear on the radio or on your mp3 player.
If you are looking for professional sounding ringtones for business phones or if you use you private phone as a business phone you will also have to be a bit more selective. Avoid songs that may be seen as offensive in a business setting, which typically means songs with racy lyrics or songs of particular genres. While it may be appropriate to have hip hop or traditional country on your phone at home, having those types of songs playing the boardroom or in a meeting may be problematic.
Many companies providing the songs offer a version of the song with lyrics and a version without. If this is the case it may be possible to use your favorite song, regardless of the genre, and simply use the instrumental version rather than the one with lyrics. While you still get to have that personal touch to your ring you don't have to worry about giving the wrong impression.
Having ringtones for each individual incoming caller can be a bit overwhelming, especially if your contact list is long. What you might want to consider doing is grouping your contacts and having a ringer that designates someone is calling from the group. That way you can still very quickly and easily determine if the call is from work, your friends or your family or however you want to set up your group features.
Having a bunch of different ringtones isn't necessary, you may just want to choose a song that you like and go with that for all of your incoming calls. It is important to check the volume level on your ringer no matter how much you love the song. Keeping the ringer volume appropriate for your location, or putting your phone on vibrate, just makes good sense. Always check your phone before going into meetings, the movies or even when in a restaurant, after all you don´t want to disturb other people by forgetting and really blasting the tunes.
