Cheryl K. Tardif, Author Extraordinaire
One such writer has taken the bull by the horns and has created a website that does just that.
Cheryl K. Tardif, creator of BookAdz.com and author of the popular novel, ‘Whale Song’ realized that she could come up with a place where emerging writers could gain exposure and showcase their work. Even though the BookAdz site was launched merely six weeks ago, it has already gained the attention of literary agents and publicists, and is being recommended to clients everywhere. To date, the BookAdz Team consists of interviewers and reviewers, and in the near future, will include editors and other industry professionals as well. Whether members are published by a small press, print on demand or self published, they will be automatically eligible to win an annual award.
Cheryl, recently nominated for the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Arts Award, is not new to the industry, and is pleased to be able to share her experience with others, in every way she can. She began her writing career as a journalist for a small town newspaper in which she had a column entitled, ‘Masset Meanderings’. Later, she wrote a health and beauty column in a military station newspaper. During the Gulf War, she felt inspired to write the poem, ‘God Bless the Soldiers’, which was later featured in a newspaper. After the Dunblane, Scotland incident, where a gunman entered a school, killing innocent children and their teacher, she wrote ‘Lost Innocence- A Dunblane Tragedy’ which she won an Editors Choice Award for, and was later published in Fields of Gold, an American anthology of poetry. She has worked as a motivational speaker for a major international company and in the early 1990’s, she was a regular background actor in two television series; The Commish and The Heights.
Her desire to help others directly inspires the majority of her works. ‘Whale Song’, which has affected people world wide, has been requested by a film producer. She says, “When people stop feeling what I write, that’s when I’ll stop writing.” Luckily, for the rest of us, there is no indication of that happening any time soon.
The recent tsunami disaster affected people across the globe, and Cheryl was no exception. Determined to do something to help, she formed an organization to help raise funds for the relief effort. A.F.T.E.R. – Authors For Tsunami-Earthquake Relief held its first event for the cause on February 19th, and was met by enormous applause. It caught the attention of not only newspapers; radio and television stations alike arrived to interview her and support the initiative.
Her second title, ‘Divine Intervention’ has received rave reviews, and has been compared with 'In Death', the work of Nora Roberts.
Cheryl has been dubbed, ‘Shameless Promoter’ by her peers and it has turned out to be a label she is proud to wear. “If I don’t promote myself, who the heck will?” That much is true; writers have to spend as much time on promotion as they do writing. But how many of us selflessly create a place, like BookAdz.com to promote others as well?
