The Global Warming Problem: Is It Our Fault?
If someone from a few decades ago predicted we could listen to music, send out a piece of communication, become aware of a certain word known as ringtone, all surrounding a portable device called a cellular telephone, the listener of such a prediction might haved laughed in the predictor’s face.
But as we go about our daily lives, living, working, be it in a comfortable corporate office setting or a factory/refinery that sends too much waste or toxic air into the atmosphere, is it suffice to say that maybe, just maybe mankind is slowly but surely ruining the very place he has industrialized and made civilized so he can live a better life?
Have we multiplied and made our world so civilized that there are now all sorts of bad things in the air that weren’t there some two thousand years ago, before all this global industrialization took place? Things like pollutants.
It was recently noted that some women who live close to areas where there is a high concentration of factories and the like can get certain cancers from the pollutants that leave those factories in the form of smoke. Thick , dark grey coloured smoke.
Then there are other things. Such as over population. With industrialization and civility also come population growth. With population growth comes places these additions to society need to live in. Be they high rise apartments, houses or whatever they can afford. In addition, they need to live and work too.
And with that comes comfort. Some people would be lost without their central air conditioners and/or heating system. Then there are others who may use heating oil if they use some other form of heating system. Others use gas.
Of course, for mankind to live and be comfortable in his own surroundings, he might not be able to live without such comforts. As we all know, many people have died from not having sufficient heat in winter or in some cases, no heat at all. Similarly, some people have also become severely ill with fatal results in places where the summers can be really unforgiving.
On a personal note, I am not sure if there will ever be just one cure all for this global warming problem we are having because, in the long run, we still all need to live and work. Maybe what we can do is limit the amount of children people have to two per couple, but that notion might also be met with problems and controversy as some persons in our midst have religious reservations about this.
So I guess all we can do is live, just live and hope for the best.
