Benefits of Heated Storage Unit

Amit Kothiyal
As the season changes from summer to fall it is important to remember to select a self storage unit that is heated. A heated unit is really your only way to protect yourself from moisture damage. Often times, many insurance companies do not cover damage caused by moisture to a unit. There are two types of heated storage units to consider. The first is that of a radiant in-floor heating system. This type of heating system pumps hot water through the floor in tubes to prevent moisture from building up inside the unit. This is the preferred method and helps a lot in preserving your belongings. The other option is using forced air heating option. Many older facilities use forced air because it is cheaper to install. However, this option bakes your goods over time and still traps cooler air and the surface of the floor and does not provide an even level of heat.

While having a heated unit is the only way to protect your unit from moisture, it is not the only thing you can do. Another thing you can do to protect your unit is to purchase moisture prevent tablets and place inside the unit. These tablets absorb moisture and prevent it from developing inside the unit. However, tablets and other moisture reducing equipment are really only secondary to heating a storage unit in the first place. It is also a good idea to not store anything near the walls of the unit as this can trap moisture.
