How To Vacuum Heavy Carpets And Rugs

Jerrick KM Foo
Is your home filled with heavy carpets and rugs? While these floor accessories make your home a lot more inviting, they are quite challenging to clean and maintain. If you don't regularly clean them out, dust mites, bed bugs and bacteria can breed in there. They can also smell stale and rank if they are not cleaned regularly.

That being said, you have to purchase a reliable vacuum cleaner that can help you out with this daunting task. Here are the steps you can follow:

Step 1: Pick up clutter around the room first. Make sure you remove sharp objects and you arrange throw pillows. If you have pets at home, leash them or place them in their cages so they won't interfere with your cleaning. Also wipe away spilled water on the floor to avoid mishaps. You can easily slip on spilled fluid on the floor. Do not use your vacuum cleaner to clean spilled fluid as this can make the vacuum machine smell rancid.

Step 2: Change the vacuum bag if you must or throw away the contents of the dirt receptacle. Plug it to the nearest outlet. Make sure you remove kinks on the cord to avoid any obstruction.

Step 3: For extremely big carpets or heavy rugs, roll them first so you can clean the area beneath it. As you are cleaning the carpet, unroll it gradually. This way, you can easily determine the parts you have already cleaned.

Step 3: Push the upright vacuum machine forward. Using a forward motion can actually clean the rug easily and can avoid damages to the cord of the machine. Run the machine at least twice on one area to make sure that all dirt particles are sucked out of the carpet.

Step 4: Occasionally shift your position to avoid matting the carpet. However, make sure you are still using a forward position.

Step 5: To clean the corners of carpets successfully, use the crevice tool attachment. Avoid using the rolling brush in cleaning carpet edges, especially if your carpet has tassels to avoid snags.

Step 6: If you need to make your carpet smell fresher, try sprinkling cleaning beads on them first. These beads can be purchased in the cleaning market. They help diffuse bad odor and they also get rid of stains. Allow them to work in the fibers of your vacuum machine for at least 30 minutes first before vacuuming them off.
