Who’s Polls Do We Believe -- DNC, RNC, Fox News?

Ken Hughes
I am not a believer in polling data. We can never be sure how the questions are crafted. There’s the age old axiom, “Do you beat your wife and children?” When the subject answer no of course not, the headlines read, “John Doe stopped beating his wife and children.” The perception is left something was happening that wasn’t. Much of the media, like Internet Columnist get their information from the efforts of others. We read a headline it sets the wheels in motion, we form an opinion, and write an article. If we’re consensus and do our research we may get it right sometimes. In the end it amounts to, whom do your believe and why do you believe them?

In recent weeks, we’ve seen the presidents poll numbers dropping. When I log on to Fox Cable News and read their polls it show the president isn’t doing that bad after all. Greta Van Susteren’s daily, [quick poll] usually shows the president has a fairly high rating.

The media and congressional liberals make a big thing out of the presidents polls. They never mention the president polling numbers always double those of the media and congress. Polls have no real meaning, if the presidents polling numbers went to zero he’d still be in office for the remainder of his term. All polls accomplish is to further confuse an already confused public. The media and congress play the blame game. They tend to match the presidents performance against his pervious performance. They never match it against their own performances. If we were to put the presidents performance along side that of congress, he’d look pretty good.

When a polls taken, someone or something commissions it, such as the DNC, RNC, the media, or some Washington lobbying group. Polls are paid for, and sold the same as everything else in Washington politics. Polls aren’t meant to inform the public, their the pawns in a chess game. They’re intended to manipulate the out_come of some issue. Polls are the sacrificial lambs in politics.

If there’s any doubt, look up the polling data of former Bill Clinton. He was impeached, convicted, and disbarred from practicing law. His polling numbers were never a low as President Bush has now. The difference is celebrity status. Clinton had it Bush doesn’t. The next time you see polling results, consider performance over posturing. We should be considering that difference not celebrity status.

President Bush is a working president not a performing president.
