UC DAVIS NAMED TO '10 WORST LAB' List for Treatment of Animals
SACRAMENTO, CA – Local animal activists have announced a protest at UC Davis, on Tuesday October 19 at 12:15 pm on the campus quad (near the Cafeteria).
UC Davis – the target of activists for more than 25 years because of how poorly it treats research subjects – is named this time due to cruel practices which have been documented in recently-obtained government reports. Federal records reveal that 26 primates were deprived of water while 22 were subjected to repeated surgical procedures.
"It is horrible that Davis researchers are allowed to do things to primates which would land private individuals in jail," said Linda Middlesworth (local coordinator). "Why are they given a free pass?"
"The suffering inflicted on primates at UC Davis is typical of U.S.
primate research," said Michael A. Budkie, A.H.T., Executive Director, SAEN. "Depriving primates of water, subjecting them to social isolation and severe levels of restraint clearly demonstrates that animal experimentation is legalized animal abuse."
The Davis protest is part of National Primate Liberation Week, a national event with protests planned in twenty U.S. cities coast to coast as well as Vancouver, British Columbia, in Canada. For more details: visit www.saenonline.org
