Behind the Face of E-Commerce Providers

Dennis Michael Gannon
With the numerous e-commerce service providers on today´s market, it gets tougher and tougher to distinguish the differences in the services that they offer. This task is as tough as it gets when making the decision to sell products or services online. One of the major factors in choosing a service provider is doing the research to find out who and what kind of company you are really selecting. In order to effectively find the correct provider for your online endeavor is to peel back the layers of the smoke and mirrors that conveniently disguise a genuine service provider and a makeshift service provider. The differences can greatly impact the success of your online business.

One of the first steps to uncover who you are considering working with is to compare the branding of the companies. The better the branding the better the customer satisfaction, ask yourself would a provider become so popular by not satisfying customers and providing good services? If companies can offer and deliver services to thousands of businesses just like yours, would they offer you any less? Many companies pride themselves on case studies of the client´s satisfaction, request to see those and it will give you a better look at the services they provide.

Next is to look at the experience of the provider, numerous companies embellish on the amount of experience that they have in the industry. This catch is used widely in the e-commerce industry and usually refers to one or two of the upper management that have been employed elsewhere and does not necessarily refer to the people who you will be working with. In some cases it directly reflects a parent company and again not the people you will be trusting your online business with. Generally this is covered by conveniently using a parent companies or sister companies technology to cover the short comings of a young and inexperienced company.

Together with the experience of the company, the individual experience of the management of the company should be a consideration. The management of these companies plays a significant role in the services that they provide. These managers should have several years of experience to completely understand and identify the businesses that they are working with so the best results will prevail and provide the best service. Companies today tend o go with people freshly out of school and have virtually little to no practical experience. This again will cause your business problems due to the inexperience of the handling of your account and online affairs. In this case, research who exactly will be your account manager and about the management of accounts held by this company.

With these tips in mind, the final deciding factor would be the payment options that are offered. Are they unique or are they just a collection of the options that the more prominent service providers offer? This can prove to be interesting; unless the service provider has actually compiled options that are unique they will be using the services of their competitors and collecting an additional fee. Why go to a third party to get the services you need? If you need PayPal or MoneyBookers go and sign for services through them because through third party providers you are paying additional fees to have a service that is more personal than someone trying to pronounce your name correctly.

These are just a few of many things to be aware of when it comes to becoming an online entrepreneur and being successful with your online endeavors.
