Appeal to the Indian Prime Minister
Right Honorable Prime Minister
Dr. Man Mohan Singh
PM’s Office,
New Delhi, India
Ref: Petition for Permanent Peace in Nepal.
You’re Excellency,
The Nepalis in America and around the world would first like to extend our greetings to you and the people of India for their friendship and goodwill towards Nepal. The Kingdom of Nepal and the Republic of India have had more than six decades of close relationship as good neighbors. From ancient times, Nepal has been mentioned in the Vedas, Mahabharata, Ramayana and the Puranas. In its long glorious history, Nepalis have defended India with gallantry, heroism in fighting in the forefronts of all wars and battles fought by India. Even today, thousands of Nepali soldiers and personnel serve in India’s armed forces, helping to maintain peace.
As you are aware, our country Nepal has suffered under a decade long internal crisis, strife and violence. The so called people’s war and killings carried by Maoist militants have resulted in the deaths of more than thirteen thousand men, women and children. We Nepalis are saddened that our own nation is at the crossroads of history, having suffered more than a decade of internal turmoil, war and terror carried out by militants against an independent, sovereign nation. Our nation and people have paid a tremendous price during this nightmare and reign of terror.
We the Nepali people silently witnessed the attack on our national institutions, destruction of our resources, infrastructure and economy. The continuous attack on
our monarchy, culture, religion and identity by various internal and external forces
were brutal attacks on our nationhood. These destructive forces have tried to tear
apart the very foundations of our nation and society.
During this long period of terror and fear, the Nepali people were deeply saddened that
our closest neighbor India remained silent and non committal to our pains and sufferings. Never once intervening to stop the madness carried out by the Maoist’s; who had established safe houses and training camps in India. India continued in it’s denial till the end of last year. Only on the subtle pressure of the United States, the International Community and the United Nations that India suddenly made a change of heart and
stepped forward to help. Nevertheless, the damage has been done, and it will take a
generation to correct the many wrongs.
Today, due to the intervention of the international community, the United Nations is getting directly involved in maintaining peace. The agreement of the Seven Party Alliance and the Maoist’s have opened the path for the UN’s mediation, monitoring and supervision of the present ceasefire between the government forces and the Maoist’s.
We the people of Nepal wish that India understands our true feelings and aspirations.
We demand that India immediately stop its interference in the internal affairs of Nepal.
Let the Nepali people resolve their own issues and differences. We reject India sending
Its agent saboteurs, its provocateurs, who meddle and hobnob with our corrupt and
misguided political leaders and parties. India must stop these acts of aggression towards a neighbor. This is in violation of all international conventions, treaties and laws.
We also demand that India stop the madness of elevating known killers and violent leaders by honoring and celebrating them. Adding insult to injury, and trampling on the
sensibilities of the Nepali people, India is forcing the Sven Party Alliance and Maoist
brokered false peace on the people of Nepal. Having undermined our constitution,
monarchy and elected parliament, a whole new constitution is being promulgated to
please the Maoist’s who have not yet renounced violence and surrendered their arms.
We also demand that India immediately stop its aggression and encroachment of
Nepal’s farmlands and forests at border areas. Sometimes, even during broad daylight border pillars are being moved inside Nepal. This is totally not acceptable from India.
Finally, we demand that India respect our true feelings that we have for our monarchy,
Hindu religion, culture, national pride and identity. India must continue to respect
our sovereignty, constitutional monarchy, our own form of democracy, our unique ways of life, customs, language and religion.
Your Excellency, you being a person holding a Sikh faith, all the more understand the values of identity, religion and nationhood. Please help Nepal and the Nepali people by respecting our sentiments and true feelings.
We look forward to your continued expression of goodwill and support.
Satya Mayaba Jayate” “ Jai Nepal!
Thanking you,
Signed by the Nepali people and friends:
