Will Hillary Clinton Bow Out of the Senate Race?

Ken Hughes
Hillary Clinton got some disturbing news this week when Jeanine Pirro announced her candidacy for the race for New York Senator. Ms. Pirro is about as well qualified as Senator Clinton, and she’s a native New Yorker.

Both women are lawyers. Ms. Pirro has prosecuted hundreds of felony cases in her carrier. Hillary has spent her carrier defending a felon hundreds of times, [Bill Clinton.] Both women’s husbands have been accused of philandering with other women. Both women’s husbands have been convicted of crimes. Both women are know to have sharp tongs when provoked. Both women share an uncanny political intellect.

Mr. Pirro has the advantage of being able to promise she will serve a full six year term as senator. Hillary can at best only promise two years of part_time attention to the senate. As Ms. Pirro has stated, “Trust me, my full_time is a lot better than her part_time” meaning Hillary Clinton. Ms. Pirro has it over Senator Clinton in the photogenic department. Her features may be plastic but they’re well crafter plastic. She will be an instant media darling for her looks and sharp wit. There’s something about a native New Yorker, they can say things in ways no one else can and get away with it. Something Hillary never learned to do.

Will Hillary Clinton waste six million dollars on a senate campaign she may lose, it’s doubtful. Hillary has proven herself in the senate the past six years. She’s become a player in her own right. I doubt she’ll risk a chance on losing an election this close to a presidential campaign.

In all probability, Hillary Clinton will not run for reelection, claiming she is duty bound to save the country from the past eight years of George Bush. She’ll go to the hinterlands confessing she isn’t really a New Yorker but a simple Arkansas hill-billy girl from an elite suburb of Chicago. She’ll feel our pain of the Bush tax cuts, etc, etc. On the other hand, she may do what her husband did, not only endorse Republican programs but take credit for them. Hillary isn’t above a little hypocrisy if it gets her where she wants to go. Where she wants to go is back to the Whitehouse where she’ll be in charge and Bill will bake the cookies.

Can Jeanine Pirro win and election with Hillary Clinton as an opponent. Her chances are better than anyone else at this point. Hillary’s approval ratings in New York slipped to 50% the day Ms. Pirro announced her intentions to run for the senate. If this is an indication the first few days after an announcement, what will Hillary’s poll numbers be after a year of campaigning. Hillary has a few months to either file of decline a second run at the junior senate seat for New York. Most likely, she’ll save her political capital for the presidency.

What will the effect be on Senator Chuck Schumer if he’s required to share the New York Senate seats with a Republican? Having seen Ms. Pirro on TV a few times this week I have no doubt she can stand up to any of those who challenge her. She appears to be able to give as much as she’ll get.

This is going to be a race I won’t miss.
