I Worry About The New Iraqi Constitution
To form a constitution in such a short time that will govern several tribes with thousands of years of mistrust, religious and cultural differences is more than can reasonably be expected. Let’s pray it works.
This new Iraqi constitution will be a far different document than we here in America enjoy. I doubt many in America will accept it as a constitution for the people. Many of the freedoms we’re guaranteed will be missing. What most Americans will fail to realize, compromise is the key to approval of any constitution the Iraqi counsel will agree to. Lets hope they left a door open for future amendments. The fact Iraqis are even considering a constitution is a near miracle in its self. Iraq’s been ruled by War Lords, Kings, Foreign occupation, and Dictators. Iraq has never had an elected representative government by the people. What they don’t know will take time to learn.
Is American politics rushing the Iraqis into a government and it’s founding papers they will come to regret? Would more time better serve them?
Liberal rhetoric demanding the removal of troops from Iraq is both dangerous and disingenuous as long as we have troops in so many other countries in the world, why abandon Iraq? The claim America isn’t in those countries to fight war’s again is disingenuous, The purpose of armies is to fight wars. The reason the North Koreans haven’t invaded South Korea is because of the Americas presents, the same around the rest of the world. If we leave Iraq now their elections and new constitution will have no meaning, they’ll become mute.
If we put the war in Iraq in perspective, they’re progressing at a very rapid pace. Our own American war of Independence lasted eight years. Forming our own constitution took fifteen years. Less than thirty years after America gained it’s freedom it was back fighting the British again, [1812.] The road to freedom is never paved it’s always a bumpy, curvy, a treacheries path to navigate. It takes men of courage and friend willing to sick it out to reach the end of the road. George Bush and Tony Blair are such men, the men and women in the military are of equal resolve. Peace is coming to Iraq. The Iraqis have a taste of freedom, I doubt they’ll ever return to the days of a Saddam. Lets pray their new constitution will save them from future dictators.
America and the coalition are in Iraq because brilliant men recognized after Afghanistan, Iraq would be Al Qaeda’s next target long before the war in Iraq ever started. Deception has always been a necessary factor in selling wars. Public polls, protesters, and political opposition should never effect the conduct of wars. Wars are serious business not for the weak of heart.
Thank God, there’re more red soles than blue in America.
