Da King
But he was probably lucky because despite his “losing” the presidential elections of 2004 and eventually succumbing to the continued assault on his health because of his lamentable foray into national politics, he remains a revered icon even in death, his goodness and humility untarnished even by those who sought to steal from him what was rightfully his by dint of his hard work and charisma sa takilya, thanks to his undefeated box office track record in Philippine movies.
No such luck for others who aspire to be “Da King” in their own private turfs, though. In Cagayan de Oro and Misamis Oriental, Hizzoner is the “Da King” and the trapos and their underlings who make their living clinging to the shirt tails of their “agalons” hang on to every word, flick of a finger or puff of a cigarette after a pregnant pause in his legendary monologues, desperately hoping for a clue, a hint, that would help them divine their political future next year.
Personally, I find such parasitic devotion detestable, no offense meant to Hizzoner, but rather to those who would make a living off the droppings from his table. In fact, I find it inane how most everyone who’s a force in Cagayan de Oro and Misamis Oriental politics are waiting for him to disclose his political plans for next year’s elections, as if his decision is the be all and end all of their own personal agenda for their political futures.
Consider for instance, the SOP of consultation and endorsement by either the barangay heads of Cagayan de Oro or the municipal mayors of Misamis Orientals. Most everyone speculate as to who would eventually sit as Mayor or Governor depending on how many mayors or barangay heads pledge their allegiance to this or that candidate.
Such presumptuousness! People who follow this line of thinking have no respect at all for the electorate, as if the mayors or barangay heads by themselves can determine who will sit as the next governor or mayor! Ah na na na na na! Dawbi napildi nang mga mayor sa ilang kaugalingong munisipyo? Sila ba diay mo buot sa mga boto sa mga botante sa ilang mga lugar?
This attitude, and the people who constantly refer to it, are just manifesting a lack of humility, or even more, a crass display of arrogance at the expense of their constituents like they are king and could tell all and sundry what to do or whom to vote for.
Remember amigos: there is only one being who can foretell the future, because he is the one who made it before it even came to pass. Like the same manner in which he made the past and continues to make the present.
It would be well for these men who would be king or seers who can foretell the future to keep their presumptuousness in check, lest these be turned around in their faces and rammed back down their chattering gullets.
There’s only One King, and our world is His Kingdom. Respect that and bow down in your arrogance lest you forget He decides all things, and can make folly of the works and plans of men who have come to believe it is their luck and guile who have made them what they are and none other.
Happy Birthday Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace, King of Kings! Gloria in excelsis Deo!
Merry Christmas everyone!
